In varying measures, modern Western education, films, and television programmes, not to mention Black activist organisations and academics, burden White folk with guilt for their ancestors’ alleged involvement with slavery. For obvious reasons, this is particularly the case in the United States. The accepted popular notion among far too many is that the White man enslaved the Black man; that all Whites did it or were and are still complicit; that all Whites grew rich off the scarred backs of African slaves; and that the descendants of White slave masters today have a moral responsibility to atone and compensate for their historical evils.
When one looks more deeply into the matter, however, one finds that the opposite is the case.
Perhaps an extreme example is shown in the history of the French colony of Saint-Domingue, now known as Haiti, once considered the jewel of the Antilles, which until the revolutionary upheavals that led to its independence in 1804 was the most prosperous European colony in the New World.
There is no denying that the economy of Saint-Domingue was founded on slavery: at its peak, its huge plantations, once capable of producing millions upon millions of tonnes of sugar, cotton, and indigo, relied on close to half a million slaves, who laboured for some 30,000 white planters. There is no denying either that, given this vast demographic disproportion, the society of Saint-Domingue, like all societies where there were slaves, was founded on, and indeed necessitated, fear, lest the all-powerful ruling ethnic group lose its authority over its chattels; and that such conditions allowed ignorant and cruel masters in Saint-Domingue to commit abuses, which for the above reason were not adequately censured, despite successive legislation introduced by the home government in France in an effort to deter the worst excess, ensure a minimum of care, and regulate a masters’ behaviour towards his slaves. (See Lothrop Stoddard. The French Revolution in San Domingo; Shamley Green: The Palingenesis Project, 2011).
Yet it must not be forgotten that it was the Whites who also created the conditions for, and indeed legislated and enforced, emancipation; that it was the Whites who decreed that all men are equal under law; that it was the Whites who turned against themselves in the effort to create an egalitarian society and abolish the evil practice of slavery; and that, had it not been for the revolutionary activism of White idealists in Europe, it is quite possible that the Black slaves of Saint-Domingue would have remained slaves. Conditions in the island may have provided fertile soil, but the uprisings of the Blacks and of mulattoes after 1789 were ultimately the result of European, Jacobin propaganda.
And it must not be forgotten either, that once the Blacks attained independence from their former White masters, they immediately enslaved each other again, and in a much harsher and brutal manner than the Whites had ever done. This was the case even with the mildest and most able of the revolutionary leaders, Toussaint Louverture, who, as a free man of colour in pre-revolutionary Saint-Domingue, already used about a dozen slaves to work a rented farm. This was certainly the case with Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the monster who ordered the extermination of all the remaining Whites in the island after independence, before proclaiming himself ‘Emperor’ of Haiti. And this was also the case with another founding father of the Black republic, Henri Christophe (the self-styled ‘Emperor Henri I’), builder of the Citadel, or fortified castle in the Haitian mountains. Hesketh-Prichard in Where Black Rules White (1900) tells the story of how this terrible monument to his pharaoh-like vanity was built:
Neither sex nor age was spared; the royal works had to be carried on in spite of exhaustion or death. Whips of cowskin, mercilessly applied by the officers in command, drew forth almost incredible reserves of energy. The mortality was frightful, but Christophe had the whole of the populous north to draw upon, and he used up human lives unsparingly.
It took a whole regiment a whole day to drag up a 32-pounder. On another occasion the Emperor watched a long line of a hundred men hauling a cannon upwards to its mountain resting-place. Now and then they paused in their labour, and these frequent stoppages annoyed Christophe; he sent to ask the why and wherefore. The labourers returned for answer that the gun was over much for the strength of a hundred men, and prayed that another hundred men might be provided to help them.
Christophe ordered them before him and talked softly with them, and at length told them to fall in and number off. He then directed every fourth man to fall out, and, calling up his guards, had them shot. When it was over, he informed the remaining seventy-five that he was but half-way through his lunch, and he would consider it a favour if they would run the gun up into place before he had finished.
The diminished band went back to work, but by the time Christophe’s meal was over the cannon had made but little progress up the mountain side. When he arrived on the scene the seventy-five bore witness with one voice that the thing he required was, for so small a number, impossible.
Christophe laughed. “So it seems,” he said, “but I have a remedy. Fall in.”
They fell in, and numbered off as before.
“Every third man fall out. Guards, shoot these men.”
The volley had scarcely died away and the last limb ceased to quiver, when Christophe gave his ultimatum.
“Now,” he said to the frightened residue, “I will require every second man to fall out next time. The gun was too heavy for a hundred men, surely fifty will find it light.”
The reason for this is simple: slavery was an anomaly for Whites, but not so for Blacks.
In The French Revolution in San Domingo, Lothrop Stoddard shows quite conclusively that a White society founded on a slave economy was profoundly dysfunctional. At the same time, history shows that slavery was an ancient and very common practice in Africa, particularly West Africa, the source of all the Blacks in Saint-Domingue up until the last few years before the Revolution.
In many African societies, including Ghana, Mali, Segou, Songhai, Senegambia, the Ashanti, the Yoruba, the Kanem, about a third of the population were slaves. The proportion rose to half among the Duala of the Cameron, the Igbo, the Kongo, the Kasanje kingdom, and the Chokwe of Angola, as well as in Sierra Leone; and was even higher in places like Zanzibar.
In West Africa in the XVIIIth century, at the peak of the slave trade, slaves were captured in raiding expeditions into the interior of the region; the raids were always carried out by African kingdoms against weaker ethnic groups, tribes, and peoples. Among the former were the Yoruba, the Kong Empire, the Kingdoms of Benin, of Fouta Djallon, of Fouta Tooro, of Koya, of Khasso, of Kaabu, and of Dahomey (see here, here, here, and here), whose religion, vodoun, later formed the basis for Haïtian Vaudoux. Europeans seldom ventured into the interior of Africa for fear of disease and native resistance. Indeed, missionary explorer David Livingstone, travelling in the 1850s, was one of the first Westerners to explore the interior of central and Southern Africa, and to cross it from Angola to Mozambique, something the Portuguese had attempted repeatedly without success.
The motivation for bringing slaves into the New World was economic: plantations were labour-intensive, and both the tropical climate and the hard life made it difficult to attract European labourers. Those who made the Atlantic crossing to places like Saint-Domingue soon became planters themselves, while the Indian population, ill treated by the earliest European colonists, was in rapid decline. Apparently, indentureships failed to satisfy demand.
Slaves in Africa came from two main sources. One half came from military conquests by African kingdoms of other
states or tribes; the other half came from within the enslaving societies themselves—criminals, psychopaths, heretics, the indebted, and those who had fallen out of favour with the rulers. The Khasso and Dahomey kingdoms and the Bambara Empire were heavily dependent on slavery for their economy; the Kingdom of Dahomey (now known as Benin) grew rich on the profits from the sale of slaves to Europeans. Furthermore, a family’s status being a function of the number slaves it owned, wars were launched for the sole purpose of taking captives. War was already endemic in Africa before the time of the transatlantic slave trade, but the economically driven pursuit of slaves subsequently added impetus to the violence.
So ingrained was slavery in West African society that King Gezo of Dahomey was moved to say in the 1840s: ‘The slave trade is the ruling principle of my people. It is the source and glory of their wealth . . . the mother lulls the child to sleep with notes of triumph over an enemy reduced to slavery . . .’ And when the British parliament abolished the slave trade in 1807, the king of Bonny (in modern Nigeria) was moved to exclaim, horrified: ‘We think this trade must go on. That is the verdict of our oracle and the priests. They say that your country, however great, can never stop a trade ordained by God himself.’
Many of the slaves sold in markets along the West coast of Africa to the Atlantic slave trade were war captives. African kings sold their captives to European slave traders for goods such as cookware, rum, livestock, and seed grain.
It is common among those who favour environmentalist explanations of human behaviour to attribute social dysfunction to poverty, stemming, in the case of coloured citizens, from historical injustices resulting from the transatlantic slave trade. And there is in all likelihood some truth to this. Yet at best it is not a total explanation, and at worst it is willfully disingenuous, for it takes into account only the circumstances in the West after the Black man’s arrival, but not those in Africa prior to the advent of the Black man in the West. Considered against the latter, as defined by the nature and character of pre-colonial African societies, the post-independent decline in Haiti’s fortunes, and that of other former European colonies in West Africa, is not at all surprising. It is, in fact, to be expected as the process of returning to normality, however abnormal this normality may look to our Western eyes.
The accounts of Christian explorers who ventured into Africa during the XIXth century, including H. F. Flynn, David Livingstone, Francis Galton, Paul Belloni du Chaillu, Samuel White Baker, and Georg August Schweinfurth, provide impressions with which we can evaluate the original societies of the slaves in Saint-Domingue—societies of the African interior uninfluenced by Arab culture. The work of these explorers, trusted for their accuracy and reliability in reporting, was summarised by John Baker in his book Race, in 1974. J. Philippe Rushton reviews Baker’s work in Race, Evolution, and Behavior:
As J. R. Baker . . . describes it, the impression gained is of a poor level of civilization, including naked or near naked appearance, sometimes broken by an amulet or ornament rather than a covering of the genital area; self-mutilation as in filing down the teeth and piercing the ears and lips to admit large ornaments;
poorly developed toilet and sanitary habits; one-story dwellings of simple construction; villages rarely reaching 6 or 7 thousand inhabitants or being interconnected by roadways; no invention of the wheel for pottery or grinding corn or vehicular transport; no written script or recording of historical events; no use of money; no invention of a numbering system, or of a calendar.
Some explorers were struck by the absence of administration or code of law. Examples were told of chiefs despotically killing at will for minor breaches of etiquette or even for pleasure . . . . When witchcraft was suspected, hundreds might be slaughtered often with grotesque forms of execution. When slavery was practiced, slave owners were at liberty to kill their slaves. In some cases cannibalism was practiced. Nowhere did there appear to exist any formal religion with sanctified traditions, beliefs about the origin of the word, or ethical codes with sentiments of mercy.
The explorers found Africans to be of low intelligence with few words to express abstract thoughts and little interest in intellectual matters. Speke wrote that the Negro thinks only for the moment and prefers to spend the day as lazily as possible. Livingstone wrote that the tribes lacked foresight, thinking it futile to plant date seeds in full knowledge that he would never see fruit . . .
Whenever a bright individual did arise, as in one story told to Livingstone about a man who built an irrigation system in his garden to help cultivate potatoes, the idea typically died with its creator . . . The explorers tended to see the hybrid groups as being more intelligent and the darker more Negroid groups as less intelligent . . . However, some tribes were notably accomplished in pottery, iron forging, wood art, and musical instrumentation.
Accordingly, save in Senegal, the post-colonial history of West Africa, as of that Haiti in the XXth and XXIst centuries, is one of brutal and capricious dictators, coup d’états, violence, economic mismanagement, crumbling infrastructure, social unrest, and declining living standards. In Congo, slavery and cannibalism is still practiced, the eaters being the Bantu and the victims the pygmies, whose flesh is deemed to confer magical powers. If the decline has not been even more rapid in some places, it has been due to Western intervention in the form of aid, reconstruction, and financing from the IMF and the World Bank—although such intervention, far from fixing the underlying problem, has only delayed the necessary outcome (complete de-Westernisation) and meanwhile exacerbated the misery to ever-growing millions of people who would otherwise not exist.
A balanced view of the history, therefore, indicates that Whites in the West can hardly be held responsible for the woes of Blacks today, either in the West or in Black-run societies. On the contrary, in all cases, Blacks have derived immense benefits from the White man. The latter provided a lucrative market for the Blacks that the stronger Blacks enslaved; furnished better living conditions for the slaves than they would have enjoyed in Africa; improved on those conditions by emancipating those slaves; gave them access to citizenship, jobs, and education; and even gave them advantages over and above the Whites themselves through policies like affirmative action and anti-racist legislation. This far exceeds any benefit that a tiny minority of Whites may have derived from slavery at one point in the distant past—especially if we factor in the economic burden that Blacks have imposed on Whites by virtue of increased violence and criminality, destruction of property, economic assistance, and restrictions to civil liberties, such as freedom of speech and assembly.
If Black activists and academics are going to blame Whites for misery in Africa and a troubled existence in America, citing slavery and colonialism as the causes, and if they are going to demand restitution on that basis, then it is fair to judge Blacks according to culturally European criteria, for the rejection of slavery on moral grounds is a European idea, product of a European worldview and sensibility, which they—even if insincerely and for self-serving tactical reasons—have chosen to adopt. After all, Blacks in the Americas have not opted to return to Africa, and either by migrating to the West or by demanding aid and access to Western markets Blacks in Africa have opted for a Western-style industrial society, not a return to pre-colonial conditions. (I would rather they did the later, but never mind.)
From this perspective, then, I say it is Black activists and academics who ought to shoulder the burden of historical responsibility, for it is their ancestors who did the enslaving—and their ancestors who persisted even after having been slaves themselves.
What is more, where Europeans conquered and enslaved in Africa, such as in Congo, they did no different than Africans had already been doing to each other since time immemorial. The only difference is that conquest was followed by infrastructure and development and, in sum, to the construction of an European-style society, which was later handed over to them, and the like of which Africans now do not want to do without.
They owe us more than we owe them.
Of course, this is not to say that the history of European colonialism is without stain: by relying on slaves, the colonial enterprise maximised short-term profits at the expense of the entire future of the White race; it created dysfunctional societies in all of the colonies; and through its efforts to redress inequities, and its failure to thoroughly dismantle the legacy of the colonial system, created the conditions for White racial extinction, both in the former colonies and in traditional White homelands. The latter also set an impossible standard for the Blacks who were left with the West’s futuristic and peculiar legacy.
But if we are going to talk about responsibility for past evils, then restitution ought to be directed inwards, not outwards, from Whites to Whites and from Blacks to Blacks, and much more so in the case of the former than of the latter, for the damage was in all cases self-inflicted, and it was in any event the Whites who set themselves on course to extinction.

I have heard it said that explorers from all over the world had the same view of Africans. That is, not just White explorers, but also Arab and Chinese explorers that reached Africa.
@Jason…Right on with your observations. When ping-ponging the event of Chinese explorers meeting Africans in my existential, I’m floored with laughter. Furthermore I agree with the reasoning that blacks will never thrive in a western model society due to vast intellectual differences between these two groups. Look how much capital the tribe led Academia in America has exhausted in the attempt to explain why blacks have failed to move up the social ladder when compared to every other minority ethnicity in America. No abstract ideology can negate experiences in the real world. We see how they are coddled by the tribe as the most laughable achievement by a black man is aggrandized and commended as if they just manufactured a cure for cancer. When it comes to misuse the ‘guilt of genocide’ – it’s the Jews and not the Blacks have mastered it. Excellent article. Of all the lies that exist about “evil whites”, this is the greatest, and certainly the main reason I claim allegiance to white advocacy. Some facts that are accepted by even the most liberal black academics:
95% of black slaves that were taken across the Atlantic were NOT brought to the US or the colonies that would become the US. They were brought to Brazil, the Caribbean and Latin America, the regions that now accuse America of “racism” when it comes to our efforts to curb illegal immigration. White academics could go on and on about this fact, but it isn’t until Henry Louis Gates mentions it in his work that magazines like Newsweek reference it is if it were some recent discovery.
Most African slaves were NOT brought across the Atlantic. They were sold in the Trans-Saharan trade. (I believe the ration was something like 40% – 60%. See John Azumah.)
At the height of slavery in America, just prior to the Civil War, 92% of white American families did NOT own slaves. Actually, I should say “free” instead of “white”, because the few free blacks in the South often owned slaves. There exists what could be called an assumed mutual universality in the minds of most modern American blacks – since slavery was along racial lines, and since most, if not all, blacks were brought to America as slaves, it stands to reason that all whites are culpable. It’s an emotion based belief, however. When you factor in the massive European immigration that took place after Emancipation, there are few direct descendants of slaveholders among European Americans today. Much lower than the 8% of 1860. (Even 66% of white Southerners did not own slaves prior to the Civil War. )
The low percentage of slave owning whites may have been due, in part, to the fact that it was illegal for most free people in the US to own slaves prior to the Civil War. 60% to 70%. Such regional prohibitions didn’t exist in most of the Hispanic New World.
The chronology of emancipation shows white countries to be the first to free the slaves in the 18th and 19th centuries. Emancipation in Africa happened in the 20th century. Slavery was legal in some central African countries until 2003.

Thomas Sowell (admittedly, not a liberal) said that the average lifespan of black slaves was only slightly less than whites in the US, and the same as people in Holland. It was 17 years greater than people in 19th century Ireland, and their housing was comparable or better than that of English peasants. Slaves were an investment to the owners, and often kept from doing the most dangerous work, which was given to hired Irish, Scotch-Irish or other poor whites.

Last week, a Romanian TV station run a documentary regarding some historical debt of some African countries toward Romania.
Romania never had colonies nor black slaves. Still, during the communism billions of dollar went to different African countries for different mining, drilling or infrastructure projects. No money has been ever payed back, no ore, no oil, nothing. Except some tribal dances. No business with equal black partners can ever work. They will steal, cheat and lie. It’s an interesting counter-balance to the things usually taught.
All empires or states consisting of different ethnicities, races, and cultures will split up when the center cannot hold (e.g. Rome, Soviet Union, Yugloslavia, Czechoslovakia). America will also split up.

Inferiority is a funny concept. Captain Cook first set foot on Australia’s east coast in 1770 at Botany Bay, just south of Sydney’s beautiful harbor. His ship’s log reads like a Horatio Hornblower adventure. He describes in detail how he first came ashore off a longboat while the ‘Indians’ (as Cook called all natives) were spearing fish in the surf, and incredibly, taking no notice whatever of his British Naval vessel, the Endeavor, at anchor and barely 100 yards away.
Cook was accompanied by the Botanist, Banks and they were guarded by a detail of six Royal Marines in Red Coats all armed with muskets. Upon landing and now walking along the beach, two Aboriginals sprang out of the scrub displaying unmistakable signs of hostility. Obviously, my pet peeve, but it must be said that, for many Americans, Catholics have been a great part of the problem, also. (Please mods, let this in). Attempting to sweep this under the rug is not working, and is a stumbling block for the umbrella called “wn.”

Minor point and just fyi— Catholics very routinely use Mestizos, especially to rout out the black communities for their own proxies, but also for en masse ethnic cleansing. And Machiavelli had more than a few things to say about “divide and conquer.”

I was disappointed you didn’t mention the dominant role of jews in the slave trade. It was not whites but jewish traders who brought African slaves to America. If I’m not mistaken, Aaron Lopez was a Rothschild agent. Jews historically have been slave traders and still dominate the slave trade in Israel, the middle east and N. Africa. There are thousands of young white Eastern European women used as sex slaves in Israel. Pakistani muslims are forcing young white British girls into prostitution.

It quickly became a slave-trading center second only to Liverpool. New England packed slaves in their ships like sardines, the infamous Middle-Passage, and sold them to Southerners at great profit. This capital floated the New England industrial revolution. If we want to get down to who is ultimately guilty, it was the Muslim Moors that introduced the African slave trade to Europe. Much is being made of Black slavery. But there was a time when Whites were slaves, not Blacks. This was first during the Arab Caliphate and then during the Ottoman rule. The Islamic Empire made slavery into a big business. During the Arab Caliphate most slaves came from Europe, especially eastern Europe (including southern Russia and the Volga region). Many scholars believe that the words: Slavs or Slavic are of Latin origin and mean “slave” as Slavic peoples were the main victims of slavery at that time. Needless to say, Jewish people played a considerable role in that trade though, of course, they were not the only players in that game.
Christianization of those territories as well as a formation of stronger states in those areas put an end to this ugly business between the 10th and 11th centuries but not everywhere. The Volga region continued to be the main supplier of white slaves until the destruction of the Khanate of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible in the 16th century. It was more or less around the 11th centuries that Arab slave traders began to explore Africa, more specifically, the sub-Saharan territories in search for slaves. From time to time they would make incursions into southern France, parts of Italy or Corsica in order to catch some slaves but eastern Europe was beyond their reach. It was during that time that the price of a white female slave – the so-called odalisque – became very high. The most expensive slave on the Muslim slave market was a white blond-haired woman – the more blond the more expensive. The Black women, by contrast, were considerably cheap.
Slavery was continued by the Ottoman Empire. Most slaves were caught during military expeditions though some may have been caught in other circumstances. Women were usually destined for sex and men for galley ships, hard labour or castration (in order to become eunuchs).
Russians were sold as slaves as late as the middle of the 19th century in the bazaars of Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva (Central Asia). They were usually caught by Turkomans and transported in unspeakable conditions across the Kara Kum desert.

Although I’m not an expert on this and it is possibly a sensitive topic for some readers, I understand that white slavery was more common than black slavery in the earlier period of colonial America prior to the American Revolution that began in 1776. People may even be interested in some of Jim Goad’s references to white slavery in ‘Redneck Manifesto’.
It’s also worth noting that over 1 million white Europeans (from Italy, Spain, Ireland, England, Iceland, Greece, etc.) were captured and enslaved by africans from about the 16th to 19th centuries. This isn’t right wing racist conspiracy stuff, but historical fact revealed by academic research at Ohio State University.

These Europeans, along with the african slaves who were held in north africa, are/were forgotten to history because they were enslaved by a culture that had no conscience at all concerning slavery. Cultures that produced little meaningful documentation.
There were no big civil wars in africa or the middle east to put an end to slavery. No extensive underground railroad networks set up by the ENSLAVING race to help slaves to freedom. No extensive histories written about the great injustice done to these people. According to the excellent (but profoundly depressing) book STOLEN VILLAGE, the few white slaves who gained freedom did so with ransoms paid by European government officials.
As both STOLEN VILLAGE and John Azumah state, the majority of slaves taken for the north African market during this era were for sexual purposes (concubines), not labor, so a large portion were women and children. White women were the most highly prized sex slaves.
The majority of sub saharan black male slaves held in north Africa were apparently castrated, as they were seen as having uncontrollable sexual appetites. Reproduction among this group was, therefore, not possible, so the north Africans replenished their supply of slaves with frequent raids on (or trade with) southern regions over the centuries. The importation of slaves into the United States was illegal after 1808.
White America is now portrayed in the media as the major player in the slave trade because of our public ambivalence concerning slavery, the transparency of our transgressions and our open admission of guilt. In fact, we were a bit player in the slave trade (we received only 5% of all trans-Atlantic slaves.) Brazil and the Caribbean and north Africa, on the other hand, are mere footnotes to the story of slavery in the American public‘s view, even though they were the greatest villains (along with black African profiteers.)

As a percentage of world inhabitants the white population will plummet to a single digit (9.76%) by 2060 from a high-water mark of 27.98% in 1950.

Using 2010 as the base reference the big gainer in the population derby will be blacks or sub-Sahara Africans. This group will expand almost 133% to 2.7 billion by 2060. By the middle of this century blacks will represent 25.38% of world population which is up dramatically from the 8.97% they recorded in 1950.

A side bar will be the single digit minority role that whites will assume. Of the 7 population groups studied only whites are projected to sustain an absolute decline in numbers.

“Black Women Attractiveness” Study Exposes Racism in Evolutionary Psychology

The black blogosphere went H.A.M. yesterday over a post written in Psychology Today entitled “Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?” The post, which was penned by pseudo-evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa of the London School of Economics, contains a lot of inflammatory subjective “science” that basically trashes black women.
In the piece, Kanazawa polls a bunch of his friends, who also hate black women, and (surprise, surprise) discovers that black women are statistically far less attractive than white, Asian and Native American women. Then he “analyzes” his data, determining that “Black women are on average much heavier than nonblack women.” Moreover, “Black women are still less physically attractive than nonblack women net of BMI and intelligence. Net of intelligence, black men are significantly more physically attractive than nonblack men.”
Kanazawa concludes his findings with this thoughtless piece of subjectivity: “The only thing I can think of that might potentially explain the lower average level of physical attractiveness among black women is testosterone. Africans on average have higher levels of testosterone than other races, and testosterone, being an androgen (male hormone), affects the physical attractiveness of men and women differently. Men with higher levels of testosterone have more masculine features and are therefore more physically attractive. In contrast, women with higher levels of testosterone also have more masculine features and are therefore less physically attractive.”

But it’s just not women that Kanazawa seems to degrade with his moronic theorizing. He has also claimed there is a link between lower average IQ and poverty in Africa. Unfortunately, Kanazawa, among others, is allowed to play up these baseless hypotheses about the human condition thanks in part to evolutionary psychology. Evolutionary psychology is becoming increasingly popular and influential on popular culture, and you are often more likely to see articles from this perspective in publications like Psychology Today.

This is a great article but, unfortunately, no matter how much this makes sense, when a ‘anti-racist’/liberal/leftist fruitcake reads this they literally would not be able to comprehend these as facts. This modern philosophy of “blame the white man” has become so mainstream and acceptable that facts are completely meaningless.
It’s a fair point that blacks were involved in the slave trade, and even that some of the descendents have prospered. However it doesn’t change the fact that much of the demand was a result of “whites”, and conditions were frequently appalling and murderous. Hundreds of thousands died on the slave ships and were heaved overboard, not always dead yet, and vast numbers more were killed or tortured once brought over. It was a monstrous and disgusting trade by any decent standard, that was only in the interests of a small class of plantation owners who cared little for their fellow “whites”, as evidenced by their exploitation of white indentured labor in conditions often little better than those of the africans. Attempting to whitewash (pun unavoidable) one of the most vile evils of history in defense of some of the worst “whites” ever to stain their “race” is disgraceful and indefensible, and any “whites” that attempt it are doomed to the very irrelevancy they profess to fear.
One wonders how to respond when an article is laced with both truth and venomous lies and bigotry. The problem with both sides of this argument is we tend to engage in generalities and the transfer of feelings and not facts. Did indentured servitude exist in Africa? Of course. It also existed in Europe. Were Africans enslaved? Of course, but so were Europeans. Enslavement was not an “African” creation and blacks were not the only people enslaved. The English were capturing the Irish, burning their hair, rubbing bark on their skin and trying to sell them off to the Arab traders as Mulattos. The Arabs were in the business for over 1,000 years, and they are still in the business. Every race of people engaged in this in some capacity AND on both sides.
To say Africans sold is just as ridiculous as saying White people bought because it is another generalization. The slave trade destroyed several communities in Africa and whipped out several ethnic groups from the continent. There are letters from African Kings to European rulers begging them to stop the trade. You had some kings build walls to keep foreigners off their lands. Google King Mbemba Nzingha of Kongo’s 1526 letter to the King of Portugal or Chief Koro Liman of Gwolu, Ghana. At the end of the day it became a battle between the spear and the musket.
European chattel slavery transformed the system into a business that would be the backbone of an entire economy, that was different and that is the reason why it met with such opposition. If you think I am wrong, look at the South now. Slavery propped them up, they had labour they didn’t have to pay a living wage, packing up people into a one room shack, having them make their own clothes from left over cotton and hunting for rodents to subsidize their diet. They have never been able to reclaim that glory days of pre-emancipation.
It is the transformation of humans into property, 3/5 of a person, the notion that a child is not born free but takes the status of his/her mother, that black women could be raped at will (Read The Dark End of the Street), that you could whip a person to death, that people worked from dawn to dusk, that children were torn from their mothers, husbands sold states away from their wives, that went against human sensibilities. It made us ugly. The servitude practiced in Africa and the one practiced in America were two totally different concepts because the latter stood “righteously” on the shoulders of racial superiority underwritten by a white god. Africans engaging in the trading of labour could not have imagined what the American slavery system would become because it was beyond their realm of imagination. You can’t imagine that which is against your cultural norms and codes of human interrelations.
And the idea that “we should have castrated Africans once we brought them over” reveals the very barbarity we are trying to pretend does not exist among the white race. Lets not even mention the lynchings. Go to withoutsanctuary.org. At least when Africans kill each other they manage to keep it amongst themselves, within their own communities. Everywhere White people have stepped they have raped and massacred. Read your history. From Africa, Americas, Europe and now the Middle East. Do you not see this as the height of ignorant arrogance? Look at every weapon of great human destruction, from the gun to the atom bomb, there is a white man’s name attached to it. Even the planet is dying to sustain white greed exported across the globe as “civilization” and “commercialization”. David Livingstone believed Africa needed these to survive, little did he know that civilization and commercialization would threaten to destroy the very world his god created.
And to credit the liberation of the enslaved to white people, to assume with such disdain that without the white man Haiti would still be enslaved is to thoroughly misunderstand the innate human hunger for freedom. It is to ignore the Nate Turner Revolt and others that erupted within this peculiar institution. Way before the white man said that all men were equal, the human soul knew it, why else could it have risen? Way before the white man thought to put it down on paper the African knew it. Who else could former slaves in Africa grow up to be chiefs in the very societies they were enslaved in? Africans believed human dignity was every man’s right. Europeans were simply catching up.
And if anyone wishes to call Africans barbarians think about this…why is it that you have never seen a report of an Enslaved African woman killing a white baby or poisoning a white family? After all, they nursed the children who would turn around and whip them, and they cooked for the men who would rape them and not ONCE do you hear them repaying such barbarity. There is something to be learned from this. That even though you are in the company of evil, you must not let it over take you.
To assume that Africans did not have any intelligence prior to the Arabs is to ignore the Egyptian, Kush and Nubia civilizations that had nothing to do with the Arabs. Arabs were the first to erase African identity from Africa. Let us not pretend to forget the Arab agenda in the attempt to prove our own racist point. Segregate them from their history and you can convert them to believe in whatever old white man in the sky you desire. Christianity did no less to Europeans and Africans like. Read about the Inquisition or pick any country in Europe and read how Christianity came at the edge of a sword. Before any African was forced to convert to the Christian God, Europeans were massacred by their own in the Inquisition, Salem Witch hunts, all an attempt to force people to convert. The Irish were Celts and Druids, the Greeks gods were the likes of Poseidon and Zeus, the Romans, Jupiter and Saturn, the Native Americans and Africans etc, all had spiritual beliefs that linked man to the earth. We are on this planet together and like it or not, we live together and die together. We must also remember that the resources that we need to survive reside on the continent of Africa. If he had succeeded, Africa would have been trading in gold and not Western currencies. Scary when you really think about it because the best strategy in war is to know your enemy. The dynamics of world politics are changing VERY rapidly and America is being left WAY behind. If the West does not come to terms with its open disdain toward African people, I doubt Africans will be fooled a second time around to assist European people when the need arises, and trust me, it will.
