What’s Behind the Multicultural Freak Show

Western man towers over the rest of the world in ways so large as to be almost inexpressible. It's Western exploration, science, and conquest that have reveled the world to itself. Other races feel like subjects of western power long after colonialism, imperialism and slavery have disappeared. The charge of racism puzzles whites who feel not hostility, but only baffled good will, because they don't grasp what it really means: humiliation. The white man presents an image of superiority even when he isn't conscious of it. Superiority excites envy. Destroying white civilization is the inmost desire of the league of designated victims we call "minorities.

At the 1984 Democratic National Convention the Reverend Jesse Jackson made a speech entitled “The Rainbow Coalition” about the organization that grew out of his presidential campaign of that year.   

The Rainbow Coalition is making room for Arab Americans. They, too, know the pain and hurt of racial and religious rejection. They must not continue to be made pariahs. The Rainbow Coalition is making room for Hispanic Americans who this very night are living under the threat of the Simpson-Mazzoli bill...

The Rainbow is making room for the Native American, the most exploited people of all, a people with the greatest moral claim amongst us...

The Rainbow Coalition includes Asian Americans, now being killed in our streets — scapegoats for the failures of corporate, industrial, and economic policies.

This dream of the world’s “people of color” uniting to overthrow the white power structure has been a recurring theme in the discourse of the political elite.  Even the term itself (1,900,000 hits on Google including many for activist organizations and conferences) implies that Black descendants of slaves, Native Americans, poor Hispanic illegal immigrants and wealthy Asian legal ones have shared political and social interests.  UNITY is a coalition of nonwhite journalists that was important enough for Barack Obama to speak to during the 2008 election campaign. 

While nonwhite journalists and politicians may feel mutual affection, interracial relations between the nation’s diverse racial groups in the general public tend to be not as good.  In fact, there seems to be an inverse relationship between social class and how well minorities, particularly Blacks and Hispanics, get along.  The polar opposite of the media elite in status is the criminal underclass.  Unlike with Whites and Asians, for Hispanics and Blacks this is not a statistically insignificant group. 

Last year, LA County Sheriff Lee Baca told an audience in Compton that some of his deputes had heard a Latino crime boss tell his followers to kill Black gang members.  If none could be found, he told them to “shoot any African-American you see.”  (Was this Latino gang leader really politically correct enough to use “African-American?”)   An LA Times writer has claimed that “Latino ethnic cleansing of African Americans from multiracial neighborhoods” has become a “common trend.”

The March, April, and May 2009 cover stories for American Renaissance have shown what happens when races mix outside of diversity seminars.  On the streets, in schools and in prisons NAMs are at each other’s throats.  California jails went as far as segregating inmates by race until the Supreme Court ruled the practice unconstitutional in 2005. 

The elite/masses divide can be seen in Black attitudes towards illegal immigration.  When unskilled labor is more plentiful, the price of it (i.e. wages for unskilled work) goes down.  Since Blacks are disproportionately uneducated, they are the ones hurt most by the proliferation of poor people.  Black Vanderbilt professor Carol Swain accuses the Congressional Black Caucus of ignoring illegal immigration to the detriment of its constituency. Backing up her assertion is evidence from NumbersUSA, an anti-immigration advocacy group that grades congressmen from a restrictionist perspective.  Barbara Lee, the current Chair of the Black Caucus, the Whip Yvette Clark, the Dean John Coyers, and 1st Vice Chair Emanuel Cleaver all get Fs.  Roland Burris, the only black in the Senate, earns an F-. 

This is not what their voters want.  A 2007 poll showed that 64% of African-Americans believe that Hispanics outwork them at low wage jobs.  48% believe that they would have more work if there was less immigration.  The lack of goodwill goes the other way too.  Research shows that Hispanics have negative attitudes towards Blacks. 

What we may be seeing happen among American Blacks and Hispanics is what has happened to Whites in previous decades.  While European American journalists, intellectuals and opinion makers are rabidly pro-diversity because they can afford to move away from it, the middle and lower classes are preoccupied with making sure their children don’t go to NAM schools and their families don’t fall victim to Black and Hispanic crime.  Likewise, it’s not Black congressmen and senators who are being ethnically cleansed from their neighborhoods or worrying about who their next cellmate is going to be (with some exceptions). 

But that still leaves the question: Even if they don’t personally feel the effects of a growing Hispanic population, why is the Black elite indifferent to what’s happening to their racial kin when they push Black interests in regards to welfare, affirmative action, etc.?

That brings us back to Sobran.  NAM activists are anti-white liberals first and racial activists second.  They favor what’s best for their group except when an issue fits into the “persecuted minority vs. oppressive whites” narrative of history that they absorbed as affirmative action recipients of liberal arts degrees.  At a local level, we can expect the Rainbow Coalition to fragment in regions such as California where Blacks and Hispanics are forced to mix. 

Unfortunately these areas are and will be so devoid of Caucasians that Whites won’t be around to benefit.

Asians don’t tend to worry about gang violence and prison regulations. But, like other minorities, they have assimilated into the anti-white culture.  The assimilationist ideology of the American right which believes that if a group acts like White people they will have the same beliefs as and vote like White people is demonstrably false.  As I’ve previously written,

The clearest way to see this is by looking at voting patterns.  In both 2004 and 2008 the Democratic presidential candidate won the Asian vote by about two to one.  In 1996 61% of California Asians voted against ending affirmative action.

How to explain this supposed paradox?   Interestingly, Asians as a group supported George H.W. Bush and Bob Dole during their losing campaigns of 1992 and 1996 respectively.  When you realize that voting is at least as much about making a statement as it is rational self interest these patterns make a lot more sense.

Before we can understand Asians, we have to take a look at American political culture in general and how it’s changed in just the last two decades.  For a few generations now, the elites have had certain ideas about the direction they wanted the country to go.  The only problem was that the voters wouldn’t cooperate. They came to hate the masses more and more.  But immigration continued, and without ever consciously planning it in recent years the liberals have found themselves as a group in permanent control no longer needing the consent of the majority they detest.  This disgust that they’ve built up has been given free reign. We now have New York Times articles explicitly celebrating the death of White America. This would’ve been unthinkable in 1990.

Asians may not be affirmative action recipients or welfare dependents, but they sure vote like it.  And as long as whites don’t stand up for themselves, they will continue to justifiably inspire disgust in anybody else who settles in Western nations.  

The website Racialicious, founded by diversity entrepreneur and Asian-looking Carmen Van Kerchkove, is a disturbing look at what those who celebrate Diversity have in common.   The contributors have names like Arturo R. García, Angry Asian Male, Latoya Peterson, Jessica Yee and Nadra Kareem. (The commentators are even more interesting.  Check out the Deaf Indian Muslim Anarchist). 

What could such a diverse group of people share?  Jealousy of how good looking white people are of course!  A podcast asks “How do we combat Eurocentric standards of beauty?”  Entries have titles like:

Ah, the great ideas that women have brought into public discourse!

It’s actually all quite sad.  Not only are Whites responsible for minority crime and poverty, but every time a Black woman can’t get a date because she’s too butch or an Asian man can’t because he’s not masculine enough it’s because Whites have invented these magical things called “stereotypes” which are more powerful than God or genes.  They determine what’s beautiful or ugly, who’s smart or dumb, wealthy or poor, and everything else.  

The hard sciences are the only area of life where reality matters more often than not.  Some of us came to believe in race realism and White advocacy through rational deliberation.  But the attitudes of the masses are shaped by instinctive feelings such as disgust at those beneath them (anti-black racism early in American history), jealousy at those more intelligent or better looking (anti-white racism today, communism), and evolutionary desire for group success. 

Reason comes later and puts an intellectual gloss over what people instinctively feel.  Why are White Americans the only people in the Western world who rise up against the expansion of the state?  It’s doubtful that the 1.7 million who showed up in Washington to protest government spending did so because they’ve been closely reading books and articles put out by the Mises Institute.

The bad news is that the deathgrip that liberals have on intellectual life and the media means that all small scale attempts to get Whites to “reason” in the right way have a very small chance of success.  The good news is that human nature is on our side and ethnic collectivism can never be completely suppressed. 

That’s why left wing dictatorships have always been so much more repressive than right wing ones.  The former swim against the current of what we are, while the latter oftentimes go with it.  It’s also why the Diversity regime requires an entire class of managers and a draconian system of PC censorship to survive.  The same things that make the world the Left envisions we’re moving towards so horrifying are what make it permanently unstable.
