“It’s instability, not poverty, that does the greater damage to children.”

Following on the NYTimes report acknowledging the well-known fact that income levels do not account for race differences in IQ, another report emphasizes that poverty does not account for the family instability.

This study followed “5,000 children and their urban, primarily minority parents.” Only 50% of the fathers were living with mothers at the time of the birth of the child, and “within five years, a tiny 15% of the unmarried couples had taken wedding vows, while a whopping 60% had split up. At the five-year mark, only 36% of the children lived with their fathers, and half of the other 64% hadn’t seen their dads in the last month. One-half to two-thirds of the absent fathers provided little or no financial support.” Things got worse when both the mothers and especially the fathers went on to have children with other partners.

Not surprisingly, the children are not performing well. They have more “behavior problems,” they are cognitively behind, and are more likely to be abused. The finding that children growing up with boyfriends and step-fathers are more likely to be abused is a centerpiece of evolutionary psychology: lack of relatedness predicts lack of investment in children.

The general picture presented by the report would not surprise anyone who has read The Bell Curve. This is assortative mating at the low end of the bell curve for IQ—lack of proneness to pair bonds and close family relationships, lack of conscientiousness. It’s what Phil Rushton would label a genetically based r-style reproductive strategy: a high-fertility, low-investment-in-children strategy that is much more comment among Blacks. (Here’s a link to the abridged version of his Race, Evolution, and Behavior, in 10 different languages plus an audio version.) The fact that such behavior is occurring increasingly among lower class Whites is deplorable — a result, in my view, of the loss of traditional supports for families that began in earnest with the 1960s countercultural revolution.

The op-ed concludes: “Eventually, the economy will improve. That’s not likely to change much for the children in fragile families.” Right, but best to leave it at that and not attempt to come to grips with the biological roots of this low-investment parenting syndrome.

I am a k-stratergist but still a little bent. I hope all have read Rushtons works on the r & k strategist. Yes divorce is prevelant in our ethnos but that is as a result of a conscious effort to destroy the western family through liberal laws on marriage and support. We must be good fathers at any and all cost first..

For men, with very few exceptions, no success in life can compensate for failure at home.

Everyone with a mental age above 12 years old (around 30% of the American population) knows liberal equality is horse pucky. It’s the moral legitimacy of liberal equality that we have to call into question.

Professor, how do blacks and whites compare in terms of family stability when controlling for levels of economic well-being?

I totally agree that these lost souls are the dysgenic legacy of the low-investment parenting and social wreckage that has flowed from the cultural revolution of the sixties. This has been reinforced by Judeo-Hollywood junk culture as the opiate of the underclass white masses. Anti traditional family messages abound in the culture consumed by lower class whites. Stupid, obese, demoralised, deracinated and harmless – that’s how the hostile elite like us, unless we are working to further their group evolutionary interests.

There is still the question of the role played by poverty in producing family instability.

At the other end of the social scale – white women are not having babies anymore (well not enough of them). White girls would rather have a good time than have children. This spells demographic eclipse and the death of the West.

he tends to flip flop on this issue. Now its biology and low parenting. Yet this low parenting is somehwat exclusive among Blacks of America. Would we expect to see such high divorce and parental upbringing in Sudan or Chad?

History of Blacks could explain that.

To be blunt both instability and poverty are related to below average IQ. What is needed are institutional and social forms which compensate for below average IQ by making beneficial decisions “no brainers.” These social forms used to exist but were deliberately destroyed by cultural marxists.

An example. Army hygiene regime. Imagine a platoon with a sergeant and thirty grunts. 2/3 of the grunts understand the need for the hygiene regime but 1/3 don’t. However what that 1/3 does understand is the need to avoid their big ugly sergeant shouting in their face.

The shoutiness is an institutional and social form that makes following the hygiene regime a “no brainer” decision.

The correlations between these things are relatively easy to find out. Teasing out the causation is more difficult.

And while we’re on the subject of instability, make a little observation the next time you (TOO readers) are out in public. You’ll undoubtedly see at least one or two white moms dragging along some half-black child. It’s a more common sight than it was even 10 years ago (though still not what you’d call a substantial minority.)

And how often do you see dad with them? Almost never.
Even at family events – church gatherings, park concerts, picnics, etc. where there are lots of dads (with kids) in the crowd, most of the dads in are white (or at least non-black), even when there’s substantial black blood among the children at the event.

I suppose some of these stupid white chicks are naive enough to think there may be marriage in the cards with some ghetto cruiser. I suspect, however, that it’s just been in vogue among some white women to be a black guy’s instrument of sexual release for a couple of months/weeks/ (or more likely) minutes.

Meanwhile, the forward thinking diversificationists are still hopeful that their revised Lamarckian miracle will take place.

Some idiots just don’t understand, like my little brother who couldn’t visualise the actual intention of this section on your article among lower class Whites is deplorable &#8212 a result, in my view, of the that began in this is it, you just crushed it down buddy.
