Why Every Warrior Should Own a Firearm

Excerpted from the book, A Masters Guide to the Way of the Warrior
By Stefan H. Verstappen

Better to have a gun and not need it,
than to need a gun and not have one.
Unknown

While many martial arts schools teach a variety of ancient weapons, which is an exciting if quaint pursuit, to live like a warrior in the modern age, and not as a slave, you need to own a firearm.

There are two arguments in favor of every warrior and every family owning a firearm.

The first and most crucial reason is the fact that the state does not want you to have guns. This alone should be reason enough to get a gun.

It is a little known fact that the overwhelming majority of murders within a society are committed by the state. This is called Democide and in the last century, it is estimated that 174,000,000 to 262,000,000 citizens were murdered by their own governments. (1)

Proof that an armed population is a deterrent to tyranny is the fact that all tyrannies have first sought to disarm their populations. A quick study of history shows that anytime the state wants to disarm its population they have sinister intentions.

The list of governments disarming its population only to inflict mass murder and genocide goes back through 3000 years of history.

It should be noted that an armed population does not imply a violent uprising against the government; actually, the opposite is true. Just having the means and conviction to resist violence, acts as a form of threat display behavior that prevents violence from occurring in the first place.

Knowing that there are hundreds of thousands of armed citizens is what prevents your government from rounding you up for transport to a Gulag.

The same holds true on a societal level. A country with a well-equipped and trained army is a deterrent to neighboring nations thinking about invading. Likewise, a heavily armed and trained civilian population is a deterrent to tyranny. Every dictator knows he can tax, and regulate and impose any number of oppressive measures on a population with little consequence. However, when it comes to shooting innocent people on the streets and in their homes, as dictators are always want to do, then, those who have guns will fight back.

Currently, most governments appear relatively benign and the people enjoy some freedoms, and so, the argument goes, there is no need for civilians to arm themselves. However, history again shows how quickly a seemingly benign government can be turned into a dictatorship. Being armed now, is insurance against future dictators

The second reason every warrior and family needs to own a firearm is self-defense. Currently it is illegal in most Western countries to defend oneself with any type of weapon, especially a firearm. While law-abiding citizens are denied access to the means of self-defense, even the lowest criminal street thug can easily get hold of a gun.

Don’t worry, this is a “Gun Free Zone” and the cops will be here any minute now,…any minute,…coming soon.

The government’s proffered reason for prohibiting citizens from defending themselves is that state law enforcement will defend citizens against crime.

The claim that the state protects citizens is not only a lie but also a physical impossibility. Numerous studies have shown that police have zero effect in either preventing or reducing crime. (2)

Having armed citizens within a community leaves criminals without the means to determine just who will use force to stop him. This is the only proven deterrent to crime.

A warrior assumes responsibility for his own, his family’s’, and even his community’s safety and protection against violence. This can best be accomplished through the possession of, and training in, firearms.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control and then the government rounded up and exterminated, 1.5 million Armenians.

In the decades after the Bolshevik Revolution, the Soviet Union established gun control, exterminated about 20 million dissidents, and starved to death up to 7.5 million Ukrainians.

China established gun control and starved to death 45 million, with several million more summarily executed .

In 1964  Guatemala established gun control then rounded up and exterminated 100,000 Mayan Indians.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, 1-2 million ‘educated’ people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

This is a short list of atrocities carried out by governments on their own people. For a more complete list please check out: The worst genocides of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

(2) In a 1972, the Kansas City Police launched a comprehensive, scientifically rigorous experiment to test the effects of police patrol on crime. The study Kansas City preventive patrol experiment, concludes that “What they found, in a nutshell, was that police presence had essentially zero impact on crime”

Numerous other studies done since showed no effect on crime by police presence.

Anyone that can legally carry concealed and doesn’t should have their head examined. If you believe perps can sense who is not a good target, it decreases your risk of being attacked in the first place.

As a self defense instructor, that’s the first point I try to get across – don’t look or act like an easy target.

I’ve brought my share of newbies to the Way of the Gun. Most were women, and most of those redpilled either by a bad experience (their own or close others’), by concerns for their children, or, least often, by the tepid, carefully structured MSM coverage of crime or the blatant ignoring of certain trends and patterns (since Ferguson).

What fascinates me is that the Left’s entire project revolves around pointing out and defining the widespread plague of Victimization, then preaching how poor weak people are at the mercy of oppressors and must be saved through various means supplied by the Left.

Then the Left turns around and says to law-abiding gun owners, “We demand you weaken yourselves.”

Of course the Left has as an article of faith that they can never be the oppressors; their government is always interested in the greater good and can do no wrong.

Then they wonder why there’s pushback from those not ready to be relegated to dependents of the Mommy State.

Infantile minds pushing infantilization on everyone quickly grow hysterical when dealing with adults. Thus the Way of the Gun is a way of reminding them that some of us left infancy behind a long time ago…and have no intention of returning.

Adults claim their own power. Infants depend on those more powerful for theirs.

In a SHTF scenario, you will probably run out of food and water long before you run out of ammunition. A firearm will protect you from America’s urban Zulu population as well as the government. Say what you want about our low IQ “urban population”, but their tendency towards violence suits them well when it comes to fighting. They will not hesitate, will you? The government knows they can’t suddenly go door to and confiscate weapons; they do it slowly through legislation and propaganda. A handgun for self-defense in or outside the home takes practice, time and money. Pick a caliber and gun design that you can shoot accurately and rapidly. If you can’t handle a .45, get a 9mm; if a Glock is too big for your hands, get something with a smaller grip. For the most part, don’t worry about caliber and stopping power; you can waist plenty of time researching “stopping power”. Get something you can shoot accurately; although I wouldn’t go below 9mm for defensive purposes. A handgun will be more than enough for home defense: it can be used with one hand while the other hand is on the phone with police and rifles and shotguns can be grabbed out of your hands if you round corners in your house.

As for defending against the government and other matters, you will need some type of specialized training: shooting at paper targets on the weekends won’t cut it. You will have to learn small unit tactics preferably with family and friends so you can function as a unit. STAY IN SHAPE! I don’t know how many times I go to the range or gun store and see some overweight gun owner. For your RIFLE, just get an AR-15 in 5.56. They are used by the military and police so you can use their ammo against them if needed. Besides that, its lightweight and easy to shoot. Don’t spend lots of money on “tacticool” gear either.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgd2F2QNfEE

I was given to understand that the Finns of the New Sweden colony brought longarms to the New World nearly a century before the Germans referred to in this video clip did.

Apparently there was an article on this in a 1938 issue of a Swedish-language material culture journal, Folk Liv, but I have never had the opportunity to track it down.

This was also part of my family’s oral tradition–that the “Kentucky rifle” had origins long before Germans arrived. New Sweden Finns–indigenous Forest Finns from today’s eastern Finland–came to the mid-Atlantic first between 1638 and 1656, from the lands in Sweden and Norway to where they had been removed in the previous century. Those Forest Finns radiated out from the first area of settlement to the Appalachians and Delmarva Peninsula, also the pine barrens of today’s southern New Jersey. This happened slowly at first but was accelerated with the “Quaker invasion” of William Penn in 1683. It is highly likely that the first Appalachian “hillbillies” were, in fact, Finns and Swedes. See the work of Terry Jordan, late of the University of Texas, on this, and later work by Juha Pentikainen.

Various historical societies and perhaps the Colonial Swedes organization might be able to help track down the specific matter of firearms in New Sweden, also the notes and papers of C.A. Weslager, for many years an historian of the old New Sweden area and its people.

My personal experience from South Africa, where I carried a handgun since the 1980’s (when it was still possible to get a handgun unbureaucratic – bought the gun, the police stamped the ID-book, no preliminary tests and procedures, but then we males all did our stint of duty in the military, so we knew how to handle guns, although not for a civilian environment).

In some cases a fire-arm did its job, and very good at that. I can tell a few horrifying stories about this.

I stayed in this vicinity, before I left South Africa:

    https://www.facebook.com/GlenvistaCommunictyPolicingForum/

On the way to work and back you could get assaulted, but how do you draw a gun in traffic in peak hours or at lunch time, and there is no place for a safe at work? You will not be allowed to enter the premises of the employer with a gun. So you leave your gun at home. But where I worked, people were shot (downtown Johannesburg). Same for when you drop of your children at school.

Once I was in a situation where the traffic officers and crime police (they are separate entities in South Africa) started with a gunfight on the highway during peak traffic in the afternoon, where everything comes to a halt, due to a pay dispute. The traffic police left on the highway and crime police on the right side, and the citizens stuck between them. How do you defend yourself in this situation with a gun?

In the night when you are at sleep, the attacker has the element of surprise on his side. He shoots you through the glass sliding door or window, while you lie in bed asleep. This nearly happened to me one night. By more luck than brains I managed to shy them away, and then they went to me Rhodesian neighbor and shot him through his knees, and his mother with a shotgun through the sliding door into the stomach.

A firearm is not a weapon of mass destruction. The first thirty seconds will decide the outcome of the firefight. When the burglars come at night, you will never know if the come as a squad (some attacks are done by erstwhile black terrorists who were trained militarily) and with automatic weapons. Then a firearm is useless (six to twelve shots).

The biggest concern is when you have children. They wake up, ask what is going on, and move into the line of fire. That’s it.

Years ago we had Schedule 1 crimes. That basically was the Your Home is your Castle Doctrine, where you may shoot the unwanted intruder. It was abolished by the black government and replaced wit laws which gave human rights a higher status than stopping criminals lethally (“a life is worth more than material possessions”). This meant a criminal could empty your home, and you may not shoot him, but had to leave the task upon the South African Police Services. If they pitched up in time.

Preppers in South Africa with a new website for English speakers (suidlanders = southlanders), started by an ex old Defense Force officer:

Perhaps there some tips where things could eventually land, and how may one go about it.

Although I have every sympathy with the view of the article and the comment consensus, I find increasingly as an Englishman that I have less and less patience for the general ignorance by Americans of the very different and desperate situation here in Great Britain (and Europe). For those who came in late, we are in Britain – and I believe generally across Europe – PREVENTED by statute from owning any firearm whatever without the full knowledge and official permission of the local Police force, AND a renewable Certificate of authorisation approved and signed by a Magistrate. The path to “authorisation” is long, difficult, politically-charged, and designed specifically to dissuade and prevent as many people as possible from following it. For those very few determined Survivalist souls who do, the path’s conclusion is still in most cases a straight Rejection by the “powers-that-be”, based on a number of other spurious extra Police requirements. These range from a Police-perceived “mismatch” in the day-to-day needs of the individual (eg, a Farmer should have no interest in or need for anything other than a shotgun for killing rabbits, etc.) to the expensive, unworkable and wholly tyrannous Police-state requirement that the Applicant MUST be a (paid, registered) member of a “local” licensed gun club (I suspect there are barely a dozen in the whole country), and in addition provide proof that any and all weapons in his possession (each requiring seperate documented and paid-for “authorisation) will be at ALL times kept under heavy-duty, inspected lock and key – other than when actually (and provably) travelling to and from said non-existent gun clubs. For those very few individuals whose whose extensive background investigations by Police and Magistrates did not throw up any material sufficient to be twisted into grounds to reject their applicatoins out of hand, I have heard much anecdotal evidence that they are routinely watched, surveilled, followed and generally monitored at all hours of day and night for periods of many weeks or months, by our hard-working Police forces who don’t have enough Moslem child-rapists, Black street thugs or illegal immigrants to pursue.

In other words, based on an all-encompassing, arbitrary and wholly unaccountable Police authority, which is backed all the way by blind Courts and ignorant, uncaring government Departments, the concept of any private individual having any form of personal interest in, or desiring ownership of, any firearm for any private reason, most especially self-defence, is in effect wholly prohibited – and is punished heavily whenever discovered.

Therefore even the most intelligent, adventurous, independently-minded, law-abiding citizen, when he or she finally takes the red pill and understands at last the immense, horrifying danger we are all in, has one single realistic choice left. For simplicity, I have broken this choice into easily-digestible bullet points:

    1) Somehow (?) first obtain a (n unregistered) firearm in absolute safety and anonymity. For any person who does not normally frequent the circles of those very few people with specialist gun knowledge, this is, from the beginning, all but impossible

    2) Thereafter, keep the firearm in the home (where it is most likely to be actually needed in the event of violent break-in or political revolution) – in direct contravention of several more (severely punishable) laws designed to cow and deter the independently-minded from their.. umm.. independence

    3) Take safety and usage training classes (with someone anonymous, skilled and affordable), somewhere available, safe and discreet (and equally secretly and illegally)

    4) Hope that when the time might ever arrive to pull the trigger, in the event of either violent break-in, life-threatening street-crime, or civil war or revolution involving the marauding, murderous gangs of all our nightmares, the Police after the fact will be sufficiently impressed with our lone, intelligent, cost-free efforts at proper self-defence that they will be prepared to overlook the myriad of laws which have been broken to get to that point. Good luck with that, as they say.

Naturally, I appreciate that, in the event of the mass marauding gangs, there is likely to be much less later inquiry by any properly constituted Police force or Court system. But the general point remains that, at least in Britain and most of Europe, even the “legal” ownership and usage of any firearm has long been made practically impossible by law. It is certainly not my intention to disregard or nullify the thrust of the article – I myself have come to believe more strongly than ever in the benefits to society of the widespread ownership of firearms by the general population – with or without the law – exactly as mentioned above. But it occurred to me that perhaps some of our American friends, who are much more familiar with the snags as well as the upside of gun ownership than we have been in these islands, might have something useful to contribute to help us all. Personally speaking, I feel myself quite acutely to be at the very beginning of the firearm journey. I would certainly appreciate comments (or perhaps even a full article at some point) providing tips and hints on how to even go about finding and obtaining a suitable handgun – wholly against the law – in relative safety. Please feel free to inform, assist – and encourage – me.

It can take a psychological toll on the targets over time. Even the strongest. I feel for Millennial Woes. It can go on – not for months – but years. I dont know why because my mind doesn’t work like that. and some of it can be very brazen and try to scare a person. Or hurt them on the inside.

Their techniques, network and organization are brilliant… in a evil diabolical genius sort of way. They are being observed themselves at this point because it has gotten out of hand over the past 8 years. They have given power to people that have power over others they never should have.

I also dont know who they decide who to do this to and who not. Clearly whoever makes these decisions can be hooligans themselves. Or why it goes on so long after determining the person is not a threat -just Tea Partiers or a regular person shooting their mouth off on the internet because of news stories or trolls- carefully calculated to provoke said reaction.

      Death by government.
German Christmas market and and San Bernadino are modern examples of Death by Government. Yes, they are. Rotherham are mass rape by government. Yes, it is.
I am also thinking of Ted Kaczynski. and several others recently who went bonkers due to government sanctioned shenanigans. At least 5 mass killings that i know of.
Also, media networks are involved as well and other groups that act as proxies that can by law do things that government legally cannot. They believe that they are doing the right thing. There is an internal subjective logic they go by. The networks of groups is so vast now and sophisticated -so much so -that even the government and law enforcement is now losing control of itself.

But i believe that reform is coming because the chaos and collective psychological and fiscal harm being done to society has become impossible to ignore or deny.

If not- i very much can see a time coming soon of political assassinations, clandestine patriot groups ( and other groups), separatists (not the crazy kind- but the real kind) and extreme domestic disruptions and rebellions and civil disobediences will occur. And the law enforcement and it’s training and vast networks will not be able to do anything about it. and they will have to try to resort to Tyranny- and that will lead to civil war.

I am leaving out a great many details on purpose- but wanted to say this becuase it may help some people who need it.

I am amazed that, so far, Frau Merkel is still walking around, probably due to the dozens of police guards and Snipers in full battle regalia and telescopic sights on their long weapons that are posted on Building rooftops wherever she goes outdoors.

I can’t help but compare that to pictures of uncle Adolf sieg heiling the cheering crowds while standing ramrod erect in the front of the open Mercedes six wheel Limo.

I wonder how much longer Merkel and other German traitors surrounding her can go on before Germans do what the Hungarians did in 1956, when ordinary citizens began sniping at and killing Government officials.

There are two issues. First is self (personal and family) defense. This is the immediate and practical aspect of handgun (and for the home, rifle or shotgun) ownership. To those living in a state allowing concealed carry, I advise everyone eligible to obtain their permit, purchase a gun, practice more than you think necessary, and finally work out all the psychological stuff–that is, understanding that in order to protect both yourself and your family you may have to kill another human. Then, learn to control your emotions, work on vigilance when out and about, stay away from drink whenever you are armed, etc. If you can’t do all that, then there is no point to it.

Generally, if you shoot someone it had better be pretty clearly a cut and dry self-defense situation. In some jurisdictions you may not have stand your ground or a castle doctrine to help you out. If you live in one of those places and ever have to defend yourself, good luck. Except for your house, in most jurisdictions, to avoid prosecution, if you can run away from the bad guy, you should run away. Never talk to the police without an attorney if you ever shoot someone. The good news is that a lot of places are under 24 hour CCTV surveillance, so your actions may well be on film, and that could help you defend yourself.

Never chase down a bad guy, or go back and shoot him some more after he is down. There have been instances where someone legally acts in self-defense, but is then prosecuted for their “extra effort.”

Know the laws of self defense in your jurisdiction (some situations are not clear cut at all), and be familiar with the general trend of prosecutors in your area. You don’t want to face a Marilyn Mosby if you’ve just gunned down some black guy in self defense.

The second issue turns on armed insurrection against the government. I cannot imagine things getting to this point in my lifetime, but who can say? If it happens, there are a lot of things to consider. If the infrastructure breaks down, and basic services stop, millions will die. If infrastructure remains serviceable and functional, insurrection is going to be a tough nut to crack for whoever tries it. Very hard for an individual, or even a larger group, to fight against sophisticated military weaponry. At the same time, America is a big place, and the Army is not. Vietnamese, Afghanis, and others have done a pretty good job against a modern military, so if it comes down to jungle warfare all bets are off. Are there any jungles or deserts in America where guerrillas can hide?

I have made the resolution: as soon as I can afford it, I will buy a handgun. I grew up with a kalashnikov in my home, came to love it. Time to buy an updated version of kalashnikov. Then again, “as soon as I can afford it”. The state masterfully deprives us of the means to keep our liberty. My roommate is a former soldier who promised me free lessons. Amazing how a new perspective can change people’s views. This is a convincing article and I’m grateful it’s here on TOO. A missing aspect is ownership of weapons in ordinary times: e.g. there’s a well-known comment I think by Agatha Christie that most of her guests at a dinner party had their own revolvers. In the late Middle Ages, many men (e.g. Descartes) carried their own swords. Certainly an important line of thought.

Owning guns is not about turning everybody into a fine gentleman. It is about not submitting to everybody, about not letting anybody do you relevant economic damage. Bear in mind the story of that mentally challenged person who started a quarrel over $1 shortchange of the ticket in a pub. It escalated, he shot the pub guy, he went to the electric chair. Keep in mind that they will do plenty to provoke you. If you have the gun, you have the confidence. You do warn the offender “I am a very protective guy who has taken gun classes.” Relatively, Muslim thugs are more quiet here than in Europe because they know that we have guns and we use them. Blacks in the US are so much more calm only because they know that we have guns.

Owning guns is 5% about the thug in the street and 95% about the sociopath thug in the office.

@ GT: One should know the law in one’s jurisdiction. Where I live, there is no need to warn anyone about anything if your life is being threatened. Why would you “warn” the bad guy? Either you leave the scene rapidly, deescalating the situation if you can, or you act positively and without hesitating. Like Tuco in the old movie, “If you’re going to shoot, shoot. Don’t talk.” And when it’s time to talk, let your lawyer do it.

I don’t know where you get your percentages, but where I make my living guns are forbidden. And in any case we don’t have sociopathic thugs employed (as far as I know). However, living downtown in a city, I can assure you that 95% of my precautions concern thugs I might encounter in the street.
