Ernst Jünger (1895 –1998)
Unfortunately, many self-proclaimed White racialists think they can fight the System by violent means. Jünger’s sovereign type of a nonconformist wisely watches from his watchtower and waits for the right moment before he strikes. Perhaps one could learn some lessons from the rebels in the Vendée province during the French Revolution, or from Balkan outlaws during the Turkish occupation stretching from the 16th to 19th century. Those rebellious “sovereign individuals” lived as peasants one day, but were ready, the day after, to take up arms. In a similar vein, one hundred years ago, the Italian anti-liberal sociologist, Vilfredo Pareto, obliquely suggested how to confront the feelings of uprootedness in the liberal System: “Whoever becomes a lamb, will find a wolf to eat him.” (“Dangers of Socialism,” The Other Pareto (1980, p. 125).
Naturally, that does not presuppose that a nonconformist must leave a life of the wolf all the time in order to beat the System. Only the time flow will tell which figure of dissent best fits a particular historical moment. The sheep’s clothing can sometimes come in handy.
With the approaching endtimes many Europeans and Americans will be compelled to practice the talent of survival regardless of their wolfish or unwolfish nature. For some this may mean borrowing a type of Jünger’s sovereign individual living in the forest, or somewhere on the marble cliffs in Dover or in Colorado, and contemplate passively the horror of the endtimes. For some, that would entail the detachment from all political or tribal ties, yet remaining constantly on the alert against the intruders. Jünger remained his entire life a very circumspect man, a natural born loner, always on his solitary watchtower, always observing in the capacity of a seismographer the approaching endtimes, yet never actively participating in violent activities and never attempting to arrest or roll back the endtimes.
Of course this may pose a moral problem for would-be young White non-conformists who can barely tolerate the mendacity of the System. One can take again the example of Jünger and examine his role during the National Socialist rule in Germany. Very obliquely he explains his rejection of National Socialism in his allegoric and autobiographic novel On the Marble Cliffs.
Later on, Jünger tacitly supported his colleagues at the High German command in WWII France, who plotted the assassination of Hitler. A timeless question now arises. Must one peacefully abide by the law of the System, even if the System is violent and abhorrent, or should one try to violently remove the very nature of the violent System? Or to put it differently; if Jünger had such a fine foreboding of the allegedly tyrannical times why did he not try to kill Hitler himself? After all, Hitler had a high opinion of his earlier works, and Jünger could have, had he wished, acted accordingly. If the summer of 1944 in Paris was too risky for him, the earlier times, such as the late twenties of the same century offered him a golden opportunity to stage his own violent coup against what came to be described after WWII as “National Socialist tyranny.” After all, Jünger’s earlier martial essays had enjoyed huge popularity among incipient National Socialist leaders and intellectuals in the Weimar Republic and enabled Jünger to cross paths with many future National Socialist bigwigs. Was Jünger just a small coward or a big opportunist?
One might reframe the same question, albeit in a different timeframe regarding the timeless subject of whether one should try to remove the purported evil system by force, or whether one should abide by the rule of the law of the purportedly evil system. Who showed more integrity and civic courage—or evilness? A handful of French Waffen SS volunteers who defended to the last man the Wilhelmstrasse in Berlin against the incoming Soviet troops on May 1, 1945 — knowing full well that the endtimes had arrived and that the game was already over? Or Jünger and his likes who had planned the assassination of Hitler, on July 20, 1944 — when half of Germany already lay in ruins? In a similar way, why does Jünger’s alter ago the nonconformist character Anarch, from the city state of Eumeswill socialize and toast with Condor the Tyrant, whom he hates so much, instead of making an extra step to take the tyrant out?
One can tackle the same dilemma regarding ethical obligations vs. lawful behavior and civic respectability — or, to put it poetically, of “self- distancing” or “esthetic aloofness,” when observing the behavior of many White American and European covert nationalist intellectuals, who, behind their anonymous computer screens, burst with self-proclaimed civic courage, but who diligently backpedal when they need to confront the System in public. The fear of the loss of tenure or the anxiety of the pension plans cuts may have a far more gripping effect than the fear of facing the gallows.
The Endtimes of Small-Time Nationalism
The beauty of Jünger’s prose is his rejection of small time White nationalism. Historically, European types of sovereign individuals, each sporting their own brand of nationalism, have never had a convergent effect on European peoples. All of them have been mutually exclusive and harmful to Europeans in general. In the balkanized multiracial Europe of today small time nationalism has no future. Figures of nationalist dissent, under the guise of the terrorist, the soldier, or the anarchist, including all types of nationalist fervor, such as the adherence to one’s tribe, or the craving for an independent statehood at the expense of a neighboring European state or a tribe, as seen among Poles vs. Germans, Serbs vs. Croats, Irish against vs. English, etc., has proved to be suicidal for Europe. Such sectarian figures of rebellion or figures of nationalist dissent are dated. Acts of self -proclaimed patriotic anarchism or terrorism only legitimize the ongoing experiment of the System with stateless multiracialism.
Nobody knows well what will be the form of the new balkanization in Europe and America and which type of dissent a White individual will need to borrow from Jünger’s arsenal. One should again recall a polymorphous type of the Anarch from Jünger’s autobiographic novel Eumeswil. The protagonist, Martin Venator (alias the Anarch, alias Ernst Jünger) lives his double life of academic Gelassenheit — i.e., of “aloofness” and of “self- distance” in the vicinity of the multicultural Kasbah. Anarch is neither a rebel, nor a partisan, nor an anarchist. However, at a given moment, he could engage in all three of these types of conduct. For the time being Jünger’s Anarch is just a respectable person who blends well with the System he despises.
Jünger’s novels can be regarded as the Bildungsroman for today’s postmodern White Europeans and Americans living in a multiracial and balkanized world, however with one serious exception: in today’s balkanized endtimes the enemy has acquired different features, which requires learning entirely different codes of conduct and waging an entirely different type of war.
The Anarch vs. Multiracial Mass Murder
The consequences of balkanized Europe and America may be dreadful indeed. Time does not have a stop, as Jünger notes. One must keep crossing the Wall of Time both frontwards and backwards in order to project oneself beyond the time flow and possibly foresee when open rebellion needs to commence. This may help avoid further cataclysms. In this respect one could draw a parallel between the current times of multiracial mass murder designed by the liberal System and the serial killings designed by the Communists in the aftermath of WWII. In retrospect, the former happens to be more effective than the latter, simply because it prevents the observer from making a clear-cut distinction between friend and foe.
One must bear in mind that communist genocides in the aftermath of WWII had a serious impact on the decline of the cultural and genetic heritage of White Europeans and Americans. For example, the Croatian and the ethnic German middle class, in what became communist Yugoslavia, including a large number of academics, were simply wiped out by the new communist class in the summer of 1945.Thus they could not pass on their heritage, their intelligence and their creativity to their offspring.
Today, however, in view of the System-induced “soft” mass murder of Whites, former communist mass killings may sound trivial. What the late communist commissars had failed to achieve with physical terror, the present-day liberal “super class” of the System is achieving with its own substitute ideology of “multiculturalism.” The constant influx of non-Europeans has already caused the impoverishment of the European gene pool and can be comparable to a soft self-induced genocide of White peoples.
It must be born in mind that the terror unleashed by the Communists after the Second World War did not just have ideological reasons under the guise of the purported “class struggle.” Communist serial killings were fueled by envy as well as by the awareness among their perpetrators of their own physical and spiritual inferiority. Similar attitudes of envy and racial resentment can be observed today among non-European immigrants, although they must hide them for obvious reasons. For the time being, neither physically nor logistically are Third World immigrants in a position to convert their resentments against Whites into a large scale conflict. For that matter, even the word “multiculturalism” can work miracles for them as it happens to be an apt euphemism used by the System. It is a handy code word for its ersatz ideology of discredited Communism. Both systems are popular among immigrants from the Third World, for the simple reason that both Systems offer them a lifestyle which is not conceivable, let alone acceptable in their home countries. In addition, multiracial balkanization flatters the ego of leftist intellectuals, who are aware that the denomination ‘communism’, after having been severely discredited, must be now replaced by the code word of ‘antifascism’ and ‘multiculturalism’. Communism fell apart in the East because it had fully achieved its goals in the West.
The Racial Sovereign and the System
Capitalism must share a major portion of the blame for the balkanization of Europe and America. It is in the interest of Western capitalists to import the army of cheap labor into Europe and America. They show no compunction in cutting down the wages of their own domestic White workers and in outsourcing national wealth. Moreover, imported immigrant workers, having lower IQ and little social or class consciousness, can better be manipulated than White workers by the new masters. They can better serve the interest of the capitalist super class and of leftist opinion makers who posture as their moral protectors. A German stockbroker or an East European ex-communist, who has recently recycled himself into a bank speculator, could not care less where his home is — as long as he makes money. Should one be surprised? The founding father of capitalism, the infamous, yet highly praised Adam Smith wrote long time ago: “The merchant is not necessarily the citizen of any country.”

Very profound article. I always like Dr. Sunic’s work, hard as some of the concepts are too grasp for me at least. I could relate to his statement of how many of the ethnic German and Croation middle class was wiped out in Communist Yugoslavia near the wars end, my own grandfather, and other relatives having been some of those victims. If Americans only understood what it is like to be a person without a nation. Something that this article indirectly hints at.
Yet the ‘merchant’ is a member of his own class, his own clan. He has decided to make countries obsolete, transforming proud citizens into a vulgar, uncouth, uneducated plebe of consumers. The only group able to threaten him will be made powerless, drowning in self-doubt, and in the aggressive claims of all those other ‘cultures’ that seek to exploit and despoil him.
The merchant class does not aim, or indeed could not achieve global domination. Their power over non-white, especially Asian peoples is limited.
What is necessary but sufficient for them is to bring the ‘West’ down.
All we need to do is stop buying what they sell, i.e. cheap overpriced junk, whether it is food, clothes, entertainment. Buy locally made quality goods made by people honourably earning a living from their work. Stop slavishly following artificial trends, try to repair, maintain, hold on to what you already have. And when they call you ‘racist’, calmly say ‘no’, and don’t be afraid that your neighbours, relatives think you’re racist. They think just like you, and it’s time you realise it. Is there “a soft self-induced genocide of White peoples” or is there a clever Jew-revenge and prevention against White racists (and all White people as an inevitable side-effect)? Jews do the manipulative, parasitic work while Whites do the productive work and serve in the military. In terms of Darwinian evolution does racism make far more sense than nationalism, capitalism, Marxism, and socialism?
I am grateful for this article because we must reclaim all of our great writers. I have been a long time reader of this site and have leaned something from every piece. We have made a mess of things, and we did it with the best of intentions. At this season we must remember that our people have faced far darker times and lived to celebrate the darkest nights of the year. We had faith. All we have really lost is faith in ourselves.
I have heard many explanations for our current plight. Some have been so scholarly as to be barely comprehensible, others have been beautiful, some funny. Most held real wisdom, a few real nonsense. I have been introduced to interesting thinkers, often in the comments section.
I have also heard us bitterly blaming each other. Men blame women, women blame men. It is religiosity or the lack thereof. We blame Anglos, and Mediterraneans, or Eastern Europeans (You did have the Jews last!.) All kinds of schools of philosophy had their part. This is our way. It is a good way. In the course of all this we will study our past and decide what to keep and what to discard. What worked and what didn’t. We will examine all of our options and take action. The longer we wait, however, the uglier that action will be.
It has been the custom of our people for countless thousands of years to remember that all things can become new again. We
can be saved and it begins in our hearts. Tomorrow, you can do something that will start to change things. Each of us has it in our power to begin anew.
We are still powerful, rich and a majority in our homelands. We can simply refuse to continue to cooperate with the current regime. It is entirely possible to be perfectly polite and not spout politically correct nonsense. We can disagree, calmly and with dignity. Get married, have children. Dare to say something that your neighbor may not approve of. Write, not email, your congressmen relentlessly. Ask difficult questions at public meetings. Have a little courage and use your brains. Take responsibility, assume authority, speak up. Be wise, but do something!

I know one of the words we love to hate on white blogs is “diversity” but in truth white Europeans, North Americans, and Australians are a highly diverse demographic. Why is it so difficult to design a rubric around which we could group that maintains our distinctive ethnic, regional, linguistic, continental, generational, and class systems?
Even in the face of Irish-American sniping at Anglo-Saxons and English-American sniping at Germanics, can’t we see that we are all in this together?
While calls for solidarity and unity are not so frequently encountered amongst white activists as they are in the service of other demographics, we can organize ourselves among ourselves around our differing backgrounds of all sorts. Think of each sub-demographic as a legitimate caucus in the white legislature.
Recognizing reality is one hallmark of maturity and, if all else fails, we can build a structure around the fact that we are all uniformly treated as deceitful, loathsome creatures by the dominant media culture and the corporate entertainment culture.

From what I have seen of ‘White Nationalists;, with the availability of the internet, and all the horror stories, I would say that it will NOT be ‘White Nationalists’ who will be leading anything. It will most likely have to get so bad, that the military has to step in. And there will be infighting, the Officer core will be more willing to ‘go along’ with the program, it will be mainly the white enlisted that would “come to our aid”, and they will be somewhat multi-cultered.
I do not see any type of ‘boycott’ campaign against England for allowing the rape of its own White children by foreigners ,for one of the best examples . This could easily be accomplished with the internet, feet on the ground, yet, White Nationalists are so pathetic, or stupid, or just dull, as to be totally ineffective at launching any style of online/real-world campaign against any level of outragous multi-cult nightmare. WN are leaderless, and idealess, and probably dangerous in that any attempt to overtly address the issue would be counterproductive. Middle America is not going to just start identifiying with skin-heads, or WN extreemism. They are not going to go begging to the WN movement for help, or answers. That boat won’t float.
The Left-Wing anti-wallstreet movement had better luck shinning the light on the ‘shysters’ for a time, and will shine that light again well before anything of social value comes from the WN ‘movment’.
I see nothing able to gel around a WN movement as it currently is. I think the ANSWER must be INDIRECT, as in ‘look how England, America, Sweden WAS, and look what it is NOW. WN needs to just go back to old

We will not get there by shaving our heads or being extremists. We will get there by building a movement, composed of people with dignity and determination. We appeal to pragmatism. We insist on reminding folks that most of them are paying lip-service to a lie that is destroying the quality of life everywhere. We point out the endless inconsistencies behind the fraud. We remember every day that they can only do this as long as we permit it. People are standing up and saying no in the Tea Party and OWS and in a million conversations all over the country. We can do this. The emperor has no clothes and people all over are noticing.
A good place to start is to demand every way you can that Ron Paul be treated fairly. He is a good man who has served his family, his community and his country, in war and peace and he is being assailed because he will not kowtow to Jewish sensibilities. I know that most here do not support his political agenda, but he deserves our support. He has earned the right to a fair contest – without the heavy hand of the media tipping the scale against him. Speak up and say so every chance you get. That is how you get power back.

How true it is that the lives of Americans are inundated with cheap, worthless, junk. On top of this it comes from nations that have a corrupt elite class that ruthlessly exploits an extremely poor class. Whether it’s toys, home building materials, tools, dog food, even human food, the corporations operating in this nations will literally sell Americans poison, and do when they can get away with it. Not true. War (true) Communism only lasted a few disastrous years before Lenin was obliged to launch NEP in 1921, or starve. As Ludwig von Mises predicted in 1920, pure communism is completely unworkable. Not because consumers can’t choose which “free” goods they like from the system, but because producers cannot gauge relative values without the institution of private property. What do you make your Lada from – titanium or steel? And then which process do you use to make your steel or titanium. Billions of unsolvable simultaneous equations.
Of course, after the NEP the USSR did use many private property prices to slow their inevitable bankruptcy – those prices being international prices for oil, gold, wheat, whatever. The black market worked to mitigate some of the economic disasters, too. And guess who ran that racket? (Hint: Many now live in Florida and Brooklyn).
In the same way the USSR wasn’t pure communism, the West is an hybrid too. Free markets for dried apricots and video games, but state monopolies, or state-sanctioned private oligopolies for all important goods and services. The central planning of the West is also destined for the wastebin of history, but as Adam Smith also said (wisely in this instance), “there is a great deal of ruin in a nation”.
Aside from that rant, anarchy has the beauty of non-utopianism. Why should someone in Washington be better able to dictate everyone else’s life than they themselves? Are they Gods because they act so? And utilitarian arguments won’t cut it either – sure maybe there’d be no superhighways, but there’d also be no Spielberg blockbusters, no Holocaust museums, no foreign wars, and armed residents could decide for themselves whom to welcome and whom to ward off.

Frankly, I find a great deal of twisted humor and cynical irony in Sunic’s manner of thinking, based on his comment, as quoted above.
On one hand, he appears to be advising that the application of raw, determined, and ruthless physical force by White Nationalists is something that should never, under any current or future circumstances, be considered as one of the many components that will be necessary to achieve the 14 words, i.e., “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White Children”. Sunic apparently believes, or wants his readers to believe, that physical force can never achieve any worthwhile results.
However, on the other hand – from his position of being a member of a race, i.e., White European – who have been handed their hiney’s on a silver platter by a determined enemy over the last 100 years, one who has never once hesitated to use as much violence and ruthlessness and deceit and terrorism as these demonic creatures have deemed useful to help them exterminate White European people from the face of this Earth, Mr. Sunic describes what can only be seen as clear evidence of how successful our foes have been in ushering along the genocide of White European people.

If, when one finds that their race is clearly engaged in an ethnic struggle for it’s very survival, and the enemy which we are facing, and losing to, has a game plan that has succeeded in wiping out millions of White European people and thereby preventing them from passing on their heritage, their ‘intelligence’ and their creativity to offspring which were prevented from even being born – and since this enemy doesn’t share the squeamishness regarding the use of physical force that most of our White intellectuals seem to be afflicted with, then just how exactly are White European people going to defeat this foe?

I appreciate, and totally agree with your posts. It’s all good to declare our outrage and anger, but at some point positive, constructive, realistic action must be taken. You clearly set the tone for what could be a grass-roots, passive-resistance movement. They don’t realize how easily their power, that power which our laziness has granted them, could rapidly vanish.
I find it sad that White pride has been associated with loud, brutish people whose behavior discredits us, and plays into their hands.
Let each of us be, in our daily lives, the exemplars of the values we advocate. It’s just one small step, but if millions of us take it, side by side, we shall form an irresistible wave.

Interesting that so few of these comments refer to one of the main points of this article – Ernst Jünger’s views.
For example: “The beauty of Jünger’s prose is his rejection of small time White nationalism.” Exactly – and it seems to me that many of the commentators are precisely these nationalists, who conveniently overlook such phrases in the article.
Jünger and his character of the anarch certainly recognised and accepted the tragic reality of the times that were heralded among others by Spengler in Decline of the West. Human existence, individual and collective, is fundamentally tragic, and many far greater and more evolved cultures than our Christian European one have gone down in the flames that must inevitably also consume ours (and every culture to come).
Know yourself, know the rules and reality of the times, and adjust your personal survival strategy accordingly – whether your skin colour or culture. This is the anarch’s solution – any other solutions are futile in these times.
A pity these comments will be lost on the small-time white nationalists…

Thanks Simon for bringing up the whole issue of Junger, which
somehow seems to have been completely overlooked in all of the other
comments on these three articles by Sunic at least ostensively
directed toward him. That said, I think there is good reason Junger
is ignored, as his legacy seems problematic toward those of us who
seek to resolve in a timely manner (i.e. before we all vanish and
disappear) the “timeless questions” among others that pose
themselves about him, his work, and his legacy toward us and the West.

least some of these questions on the work and existence of this
extraordinarily long lived survivor among the revolutionary
conservatives, who lived more than 50 years after a war that most of
his contemporaries never saw. I do thank you and Tom Sunic for at
least helping bring them to our attention again.
I suppose, as opposed to Marx’s observation that history starts as
comedy and “repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as farce”,
Spengler and Junger’s focus on tragedy contrasts itself, but it also
highlights one rather glaring aspect of their writing style, their
basic lack of humor. As to their observation, paralleling Keynes’
observation “that in the long run we are all dead”, our evaluation
of their work as with his hinge on their providing insights beyond
such as these.
I suppose this is the problem with prescriptions springing from
nihlism – they tend to substitute rhetorical sophistry for real
solutions. In a world where words are losing their meaning anyway,
if there is any meaning left in this paragraph above I find it hard
to find anything that could not be appropriated, and not without
legitimate defense, by someone like Rihanna

It grieves me to disappoint you HarryO. My point was that the decision should be made by the voters, not the media. I am also a believer in incrementalism. Ron Paul has earned my vote by his attack on The FED.
My larger point was that we must recognize that there is much we can do which will not get us arrested or shunted into a social gulag. Ron Paul is under assault not for his policies or professional professional record, but because he is a white man who has dared to be associated with writers who disobeyed the pc commands. He can be defended with appeals to our people and their sense of fair play. The defense itself calls attention to the tactics of our foes.
@Michel Cloutier: Thanks you. We are far too ready to cede ground and allow our opponents to define us. The way to make the white freedom movement respectable is for respectable people to challenge the current regime.
I have never met a skinhead, but I have been unable to avoid being physically frightened by the demeanor of youth of a darker hue. I am willing to accept the responsibility for the control and punishment of our own unruly men if minorities will do the same.
Alice, the assault on the White race is but a part of what’s in motion now. We are targeted as the only group that can really challenge them, but the real aim is to create as vast, passive semi-global proletariat. They will sit on the top rung of the ladder, while everybody else will be far, far down. We will be deprived of a decent education, independent medias, decent health care, decent food. We will be kept in check by lurid, vapid entertainment, over-consumption of tranquilizers and psychotropic drugs and
the semblance of democracy. Our life expectancy will go down. Wealth will be even more concentrated that it is now. The world will be at peace, nations-state having lost any capacity for organized conflict. There will only be brush-fire wars in areas that don’t matter to them.
We still have time to stop this, with dignity, but implacable resolution. They are, and have been for most of their history but petty merchants whose junk we simply have to stop buying. We have to identify their allies among us, engage them in dialogue and convince them that once they have served their purpose they ‘masters’ will let them out to dry.

I agree with all that you have said with the exception of the future tense. We are currently living in the conditions you describe. It came about, in part, by our own good nature. America has always offered people the option to remake themselves. The image of a people so degraded that they lined up to be shot rather than die fighting convinced the vast majority of Americans that Jews could never be a threat to us. We sincerely believed that it was self-evident that such a people would want to leave such a culture behind and become real Americans of the Jewish faith.
The fact that so many of us also found their company unpleasant caused us to withdraw from areas where they became prominent . We excused atrocious behavior on the grounds that the poor souls didn’t know any better and hoped that time and education would solve the problem. We were wrong.
Whatever else they are, Jews in America are not helpless victims nor do they want to join us. We are under no obligation, moral or otherwise to submit to the ongoing destruction of all that is best in America. Our founding fathers and ancestors demand that we stand up to any group willing and able to silence dissent and freedom. This is an entirely respectable endeavor.

They’re despised by the westeners in the past because of their political, economic and media influence and their hatred toward Christianity. Even though Jewish communities were expelled from almost every European country in the past (108 times) – Jewish elites were rulers behind the screen in Germany, France, Russia, Austria, England, etc.
Same goes for the myth “Our founding fathers and ancestors demand that we stand up to any group willing and able to silence dissent and freedom”. The “founding fathers” built America on the blood and bones of over 100 million native Americans. Now, the American leaders are silencing all the people who disagree with American greed, expansionsim and support for Israel. This is the very reason the Jewish Lobby and its butt-licking Christian leaders are ganging on Rep. Ron Paul.

Interesting points are made along the way, but I couldn’t get add them all up into a coherent message. But then again, I may be too much under the influence of The System.

pardon me for my earthbound remarks, but “tragic” and “tragedy” really ought to be confined to individuals and their actions. Darwinian thinking does not have room for tragedy. Survival and reproduction, etc. of a species is just biology and fitness.
We are not going to do Down. We are fighters, and will fight. Fact is we are fighting back right now and Liberal Totalitarianism is in Crisis…economic, social, racial, political.
This is not the time for high-brow ruminating on the Tragedy of the West. We are rousing from out thrall to jews , liberalism, racial equality, etc.
