I made a resolution to not to waste time and energy on Internet squabbles with people like Lawrence Auster. Auster’s agenda is pretty clear. As I said in some previous comments on him, “Auster’s comments, posted on his website, are first and foremost an attempt to place me beyond the realm of legitimate discourse. By titling the article ‘The idiocy of Kevin MacDonald,’ Auster is saying, “Don’t go near MacDonald—he is off limits.” Auster continues to draw lines, now trying to anathematize anyone who is remotely associated with me.
For awhile, it seemed that Auster had decided not to bother with any arguments at all. His complaints about my review of Norman Podhoretz’s Why are Jews Liberals? referred to “MacDonald-style Jew-hatred” and then had long quotes from the article. Not exactly an overwhelming argument.
Now Auster has taken to calling me an “exterminationist anti-Semite,” again with the aim of drawing boundaries for acceptable discourse and again without much of an argument:

If anyone has a reasonable interpretation of MacDonald other than that he is an exterminationist anti-Semite, I’d like to hear it.

I certainly do think I have shown that Jews have a powerful sense of groupness. This is apparent throughout history and can be seen today in pretty much any statement put out by organizations like the ADL. And I do think that there are conflicts of interest between Jews and non-Jews in a wide range of areas — my writing has focused on immigration policy, policy toward Israel, and the construction of culture generally. Whenever I discuss these issues I always qualify my remarks by noting that not all Jews hold the same opinions. Making a case for Jewish influence is a matter of looking at where the great mass of Jewish money and influence is being brought to bear and trying to determine if their efforts are effective. For example, in the case of immigration policy, it matters little if Auster and Stephen Steinlight oppose our anti-White immigration policy when the organized Jewish community and the vast majority of Jews (including a great number of Jews with influential positions in the media and in politics) are in favor of it. (Here‘s a recent example: the ADL condemning the Arizona law that attempts to rid the state of illegal immigrants.) My argument is that Jewish influence was a critically necessary condition for the passage of the disastrous 1965 immigration law.
But this is a far cry from saying that Jews are ”genetically determined by Darwinian evolution to subvert and destroy white gentile societies wherever they encounter them.” Even a casual reading of my work would show that it’s all about culture–why else write a book titled The Culture of Critique. (This is a recent academic version of my theory of culture.) Genetic determinism plays no role in my theory.
When it comes to why the organized Jewish community and most Jews have supported policies that oppose the interests of people of European descent, I implicate Jewish ethnocentrism combined with their lachrymose view of their own history among Europeans — summarized in my review of Podhoretz. Briefly stated, Jews have a historical grudge against Europeans and their culture.
Besides the historical grudge that has fueled so much Jewish hostility toward European-descended peoples and their culture, the rise of a Jewish elite in 20th-century America is a story of ethnic displacement. No evolutionist is surprised at the desire to achieve elite status and displace previously dominant elites, and Jews are certainly no exception. Jews are doing what pretty much any ethnic group would do if they could. In today’s column, Pat Buchanan writes, “The Chinese of 2010 call to mind 19th-century Americans who shoved aside Mexicans, Indians and Spanish to populate a continent, build a mighty nation, challenge the British Empire — superpower of the day — and swiftly move past her in manufacturing to become first nation on earth.”
Yeah, we shoved aside other peoples. And now it’s happening to us — mainly, in my opinion, because of the power of the new Jewish elite. The Indians didn’t like it when it happened to them. I don’t like it as it’s happening to me and people like me. The Palestinians don’t like it either.
The only thing is that I suspect that everyone would have assumed that a 19th-century American Indian complaining about what was happening was being entirely rational. But now someone like me is treated as a raving lunatic and moral reprobate — ignored by the elite media and vilified by the lavishly funded Jewish activist organizations like the ADL and the SPLC. We are not supposed to put up a fight. We are supposed to simply accept our displacement and pledge fealty to our new elite.
But I am not an exterminationist. Since when is someone who calls attention to conflicts of interest between groups necessarily advocating the extermination of one of the groups? By that logic, a historian documenting the influence of, say, Christian Zionists and noting how their interests conflict with those of others would necessarily be advocating their extermination. By that logic Mearsheimer and Walt are exterminationists. Auster’s comment is nothing but an attempt to have any discussion of Jewish interests and Jewish influence be completely off the table–unlike the interests and influence of any other group.
I am perfectly happy for Jews to live where they want. I just wish they would not continue to oppose the interests of people like me. Obviously, in saying this, I am implying that I don’t believe in genetic determinism in the area of political choices. It is within the power of Jews to change their political behavior. In fact, rather than behaving like mindless robots acting out of a genetic imperative, Jews have always been flexibly responsive to historical contingencies, and this agrees with everything we know about human psychology.
It really doesn’t matter if groups with little power and influence oppose the interests of White Americans. But it matters greatly if a substantial component of the elite in terms of wealth as well as political power and media influence opposes our interests and brings to economic ruin and political oblivion anyone (Jew or non-Jew) who comes to our defense.
Nor do I have any conceptual problem with Jews living in Israel. As I wrote in my previous comments on Auster, I would be willing to make a quid pro quo with the organized Jewish community: If you support white ethno-nationalism in the US and provide intensive, effective support for ending and reversing the immigration policy of recent decades (i.e., something approaching the support you presently provide Israel), I would be willing to go to the wall to support Jewish ethno-nationalism in Israel, even at substantial cost for the US. The fact that a minuscule number of Jews — none of them part of the main Jewish activist organizations that have been so destructive to White ethno-nationalism — are immigration patriots and see value in America as ethnically and culturally European is certainly not a reason for someone like me to support Jewish ethno-nationalism in Israel.
But I don’t see the organized Jewish community getting behind a White America any time soon — from which I infer that they continue to believe that it is their self-interest to oppose the interests of White Americans (not that they are the victims of some phantasmagorical genetic imperative). The fact is that Israel is costing the US dearly in terms of blood and treasure at the same time that the Jewish community in the US opposes the interests of White Americans. I really don’t see why I should support it.
However, that’s not the same as wishing Israel would be wiped off the map — only that they should fend for themselves. I do not believe that it is in my ethnic interests nor is in the interests of the United States to antagonize the Arab and Muslim world in the interests of an expansionist, apartheid, ethno-nationalist Israel. It’s simply not our fight.
Facing the Future as a Minority
Well, if Israel had to fend for itself, it would get wiped off the map, so it’s the same thing, I think.
I believe that Auster is a strongly identified Zionist Jew. I believe he is smart about some subjects, but he pretends to be a “paleoconservative” in order to win support in that subgroup for Zionism–and to marginalize people like Dr. MacDonald. The strategy is a replay of the neoconservative takeover of the republican party. I wish everyone would stop talking about “Auster”.
I have also noticed something strange about Richard Hoste. I used to follow his Amazon reviews, but recently he appears to have deleted his account. When one searches his name under “people”, the name Jack Silverstein pops up! Another person who follows his blog linked to an early version of his account(same reviews) that was under that name! There is something about his thought that seems inconsistent. He posts the most insulting writing about blacks and gays, but he never insults Jews. He also positively reviewed a strange book “Erectus Walks Among Us” which denies the Out of Africa theory and apparently equates blacks with Homo Erectus. An evolutionist would never make these mistakes. I have never seen a picture of Richard Hoste. Could he be some sort of synthetic web personality?
And I hate when Zionists compare the expansion of the Israeli state with the marginalization of the american Indian. The Indians were never opposed to European colonization and moreover, the said events are over 100 years old. Moral standards have changed rapidly. Most of the worst persecutions of the Indians occured in pre slavery days. Israel is a modern, enlightened nation. They don’t get held only to the standard of the worst events that have happened in world history.
I couldn’t care less about Auster or what he thinks. It’s a shame MacDonald feels the need to respond at all. I think MacDonald has qualified his views plenty; no amount of qualification will stop fanatical, hyper-ethnocentrist non-Gentiles from attacking him with absurd slanders and purposeful misrepresentation of his views.
What sort of audience does Auster have anyway?
The biggest joke is Auster’s sad, ridiculous caricature of McDonald’s work. Instead of the finely combed analysis he provides on select other topics, when addressing McDonald’s work he resorts to the most absurd, vainly contrived pseudo-summaries that fail to provide any semblance of honest representation of the CofC series. As a result, his blog reads toggles between decent analysis on immigration and race followed by a descent into topical insanity when addressing Jews and Israel.
Great stuff. But, are the Jews rational? Particularly when it comes to their homeland Israel.
Thanks , Kevin. I used to read Auster practically every day since the Gates arrest crap last summer – Brimelow’s Vdare gave me the link. But his writings about Israel are completely unhinged.
Auster eloquently defended the right of white Americans to stop immigration in “The Path to National Suicide” which is why I read his stuff in the first place – but he now advises readers to not support Brimelow or Buchanan because they are “Anti-Semitic,” which in both cases is ridiculous.
Buchanan and Brimelow have both been shouted down by the main stream media as racists and anti-semites precisely because they have advocated an end to 3rd world immigration and affirmative action – isssues where they are both in agreement with Auster.
Auster recently declared a litmus test about “real” conservatives supporting the state of Israel. It is abundantly clear where his sympathies lie.
The smearing of you, Prof. MacDonald, as an “eliminationist” is breathtaking in its audacity. Auster is clearly out of his mind.

I guess you haven’t read a) MacDonald’s trilogy b) academic published works c) criticism of his works by other academics, including and especially Jewish evaluation and critical commentary on his 1st and 2nd works, before he stepped on toes with #3 The Culture of Critique.
You’d profit by reading Separation and Its Disconents and A People That Shall Dwell alone, which received variable, some favorable, reviews by Jewish academics, before the firestorm erupted over his treatment of the contentious and still open-wounds of 20th century conflicts/issues.
Regarding the first two works of the trilogy, suffice it to say MacDonald knows the Jewish people better than it knows itself, and certainly doesn’t hate them. He knows them too well to hate them, and I would venture to suggest that he only discovered and became aware of who he was, in the larger political context, by and by as a result of studying the deep political-ethnic conflicts, still ongoing, in which the Jewish community is largely engaged. Therefore he had no angle in the development of his theory and treatment of Jewish history, he approached it objectively and scientifically, and this is acknowledged by enough (politically opposed) reviewers to be accepted. If he really was a hack, or motivated by hate, there would be no one to defend him. Alas, there are plenty who do.

Also, what about the “organized Jewish community”? A good proxy for this might be Congressman who are Jewish or receive large donations from the “organized Jewish community.” I realize organized Jewish community is a kind of difficult to define term.

There’s so much hypocrisy in circulation in academia. Why do people tend to think that academia is “special” in terms of moral standards, for example? There’s no good reason why Dr. MacDonald’s views cannot be regarded as academic or scientific, even without his current status as a professor. Science is not religion, and scientists are not high-priests, as many Jews would like to think.

Dr. MacDonald has said, himself, if the Jews would knock it off with the race-replacement stuff and fix the damage they’ve caused, he’d go to the wall to advocate Whites’ defense of Israel (even if the cost to us is large.) Auster’s leap from MacDonald’s rational critique of subversive organized Jewry to a claim that MacDonald advocates their extermination is a typically Jewish supremacist hasbara technique designed to categorize any serious and intelligent critics as beyond the pale — in this case, not only MacDonald, but anyone who publishes him (specifically, Richard Spencer, the publisher of Alternative Right, who is supposedly part of “the Paleocon anti-Semite complex”).

The bottom line here is that people like “Auster” are simply Kosher-Kahnservatives, unworthy of our trust. They are of the same ilk as Rabbi Boteach, Paul Gottfried, and the Jews for Preservation of Firearms Ownership. Their function is to co-opt a nascent White-conscious right, and deflect it into harmless (for the Jew-elite) directions.
People like Brimelow and Jared Taylor make a fatal mistake–they reach out to people they perceive to be “like-minded Jews,” but these “like-minded Jews” turn out to be wolves in sheep’s clothing, nothing more.
I’m not willing to say I’m an “exterminationist,” but I do think we cannot trust Jews to belong to White organizations. I say let them go to Israel, cut off all support for Israel, and let them engage the Arabs in their own Holocaust. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make that outcome bear any relation to reality. But one thing we DO control is who we ally ourselves with. And for that, we MUST exclude Jews. It’s really that simple.

Good old Prof. MacDonald makes only one basic mistake, in my view, and that’s his failure to accept DETERMINISM, absolute cause-effect–the idea there is no perfectly “FREE” human will. From this error, if u will, proceed then all and every other mistakes–including esp., as other posters here have noted, this concern with an admitted hook-nose like Auster. Who cares what Auster or any Jew says?

It takes two to tango, and most of organized Jewry has gravitated to the absolute worst and most venal of its leadership time and again out of opportunism moreso than fear. It was that way in the early Soviet Bolshevik era, and it’s that way today.

I’ve gotta agree — ‘Darkmoon’s’ work is over-the-top and unreadable, and does no credit to this site. That goes double for the cheesy photoshopped illustrations that accompany them. The contrast between her (?) work and the generally well-supported, well argued, well thought out work of MacDonald, Sunic, etc is stark.

As for Jobling, I don’t care for him too much. I have found him to be dishonest and shrill, as opposed to a respectable intellectual. The way he misreads and misinterprets MacDonald’s trilogy and general view on Jewish history is one. His silly accusations of antisemitism regarding AmRen is another. He is like Auster in many ways and lives in his own little ideological niche where he throws an assortment of arrows and darts at the white and paelo right on a routine basis, but enjoys little actual relevance to either.
In view of Stari Momak’s and Tom Watson’s posts (following my comment on Lasha Darkmoon) expressing agreement with J, maybe I’d better state, in case it’s not clear, that I find Miss Darkmoon an outstanding commentator, one of the best at this site. (One of the best at any site.)
My request to J for an example was purely rhetorical: J is not going to furnish an example and is not going to reply at all. That’s his style. He makes astounding accusations that appear to come from someone out of touch with reality then ignores criticism. Were there a chance he might reply, any example he gave would be disposed of easily; shredded. But there’s no chance, because replying and debating the way a normal person would are not J’s style.

i second it was one of the most insightful pieces on the modern art world you can read. you would have to read journals, get in discussions and such for YEARS until you finally understood the curious case of modern ‘art’ -becauseno on will ever say why and who directly – but there is lots of dancing around the subject- Darkmoons’ article is a perfect aggregate of a revelation that comes to any (gentile) who has thoughtfully examined modern art.

But I am not an exterminationist. Since when is someone who calls attention to conflicts of interest between groups necessarily advocating the extermination of one of the groups? I am coming to appreciate the comments of this individual known as J, despite all his “SICS”. They do not necessarily indicate his lack of education. I followed the debate between MacDonald and Jobling, I suspect that the later is far from finished debating this issue. Because of his credentials the broader race realist community will listen to what he says, for this reason alone I would like to see a more elaborate response from Kevin MacDonald, perhaps one that is similar to his reply to Kaufmann. I believe it is necessary to prevent Jobling from swaying his readers opinions away from EGI…
However, I respect Jobling tremendously, but he has backed himself into a corner with his comments on David Duke. He contends that Duke is insane for his writings on Israel’s complicity in the 9/11 attacks without sufficient evidence to challenge the conventional wisdom. He concludes that Duke is insane and once anyone vigorously defends a conspiracy theory, none of their research should be taken seriously ever again. But yet he quotes from Coulter and Auster, two rapid anti-evolutionist who provide NO evidence to challenge decades of conventional wisdom in biology. It is apparent that Auster twist everything about evolutionary theory so that it fits into his deranged worldview. This is the same Auster who Jobling respects so much. I think that most people when they think of evolution think it’s all genetic–end of story. Cultural group selection maintains that races really exist and there are meaningful genetic differences between them. It’s just that when it comes to competition between races, the main factor for humans, at least in societies like ours, is the construction of culture. I know, whenever we hear “culture” we think that it is some rabid leftist trying to convince us that “race and personality traits are cultural and environmental, not hereditary”. But these leftists give research in the humanities and social sciences a Marxist spin, they contend that their are NO human instincts, but rather our life experiences mold our mental attributes. This is the “Blank Slate” espoused by Locke, Rousseau, and Marx himself. This perspective has been demolished by great evolutionary biologist including Williams, Dawkins, Buss, Pinker, Wilson, etc.
The Blank Slate is most certainly NOT articulated throughout the writings of Kevin MacDonald, whether implicitly or explicitly. To get an idea about how culture influences the lives of individuals and groups, just think about how race suicide was never on the agenda for various European political elites at home and abroad. Queen Elizabeth had blacks relocated to Africa from Britain, Jefferson states that blacks couldn’t live alongside whites, etc. But modern white Western elites are utterly destructive to white interest, which is axiomatic to any sane person. The question is why? It is utter tomfoolery to postulate that we somehow evolved novel genetic behaviors that are oriented to self-destruction. The fact of the matter is this: the political and social features of the West are profoundly anti-white and there are enormous benefits bestowed to the followers of political correctness in terms of their career and finical prospects. Cultural group selection is not really about things like personality or IQ. These are nature/nurture issues and they all show heritability and there are race differences. I’ve wanted to ask this question for awhile, but I’ve put it off for so long so I should do it now. What do you make of David Buller’s criticism of evolutionary psychology?
I haven’t read anything more than summaries of Buller. But what I have read I thought was weak. Hr tries to show methodological flaws and come with with alternative explanations. My writing is actually must more devastating of the strong form of evolutionary psychology because it argues for a strong evolutionary role for domain general mechanisms like general intelligence and effortful control.
