I stumbled on Sean Hannity interviewing Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu in the immediate aftermath of his triumphal speech to both houses of of our slavish Congress. (Around 30 standing ovations.) As expected, it was the softest of softball interviews, Hannity doubtless gloating at the possibility of Republican gain by fawning over the Israelis while the Obama administration has to deal with the rest of the world and therefore must at least give a show of impartiality.
Hannity, who has my vote for being the biggest jackass in “conservative” talkdom, basically sets Netanyahu up so that he can run through his familiar set pieces on Hamas, Iran, Israeli democracy, freedom, etc. But what really amazed me was his statement, at around 3:50 of the interview, that the reason he identifies with the Enlightenment slogans of the equality of all humans, inalienable rights, and government for the people that decorate the monuments in Washington is because these are “basically Jewish concepts.” Israel therefore has a natural affinity with the US. The implication of course is that in supporting Israel, the U.S. is supporting its own values.
All of this may come as a big surprise to those who are aware of the second class status of Arabs in Israel, not to mention the status of the Arabs on the West Bank where ethnic cleansing and apartheid are the norm. But the idea that Judaism somehow embodies Enlightenment ideas at any stage of its history is ridiculous. Enlightenment thinkers like Voltaire scorned Judaism for its tribal backwardness. Judaism is the exact opposite of Enlightenment values: moral particularism (what’s good for the Jews) rather than moral universalism, and non-Jews having few rights and lower status. Jewish Diaspora communities were anything but democratic. Rather, they were ruled by rabbinical and economic elites, so much so that disaffected lower-status Jews broke off and established the Hasidic movement, which also gravitated to undemocratic cults of personality centered around powerful rabbis.
Netanyahu also says that some of the Founding Fathers wanted Hebrew to be the official language of America. This was news to me, but appears to be a staple of Jewish self-conceptions in America (see here; see also here and here).
It is certainly true that the Old Testament was an important source of inspiration during the period, as we still see today. Much of this is quite harmless–for example, seeing the struggle against the Pharaoh in Exodus as an analogy to the struggle against the British in the American Revolution. It becomes a problem when such views color perceptions of Jews and Israel, as with the Christian Zionists who are strongly encouraged by the Israel Lobby.
The obvious intent is to advance specifically Jewish issues, such as support for Israel, and to make non-Jewish Americans think that Jews are “just like us” even when the Jewish tradition departs radically from our own. Then it becomes little more than propaganda that blinds non-Jews to their real interests.

One little trick that works when writing politicians, is to cc: your letter to a few newspaper, or electronic media pundits. For example, Joe Blow, Editor, The Tennessee Tattler, Harry Blowhard, WXYZ, Nashville, TN etc. Even if you don’t actually cc: them and save the postage, the politician realizes that your letter might have some legs & might be circulating.
The more you cc:, the better. It’s an open political opinion letter. You can always add not for publication or broadcast below your signiture, if you actually send it to the media, and don’t want it published. The politician doesn’t know that, and if you want your open letter published that’s always an option.

What Bibi didn’t elaborate is that those “Jewish” concepts of the dignity of all humans and shared rights are thought by Jews to only apply to fellow Jews. THAT is the fly in the ointment that they NEVER to tell you.

The Catholics often seem to be latching onto all this foreign policy via a ‘glory days of Rome’ kind of mentality from catechism class— the love of the Empire, the grandness of the old crusade battles, and so on. It’s very noticeable in Hannity (that this is his internal fantasy).
Many u.s. prots were constitutionalist and against any standing army, had fought not to give over their proceeds from labor to a tax-collection-military— so for U.S. military empire they have posed a completely different problem (in terms of socialization and propaganda to get them to support the military agenda).
For pro-Israel Catholics, Israel is a “friend,” (a business-war ally). For the prot-zionists (like under Haggee) they —to some degree— ARE israeli (and this, in part, goes back to their history being formulated under the u.s. continent expansion metaphors (exile from england, religious persecution, promise land of u.s., etc.)
The catholics, s/a Hannity, do not actually share that history, but again, are tapping into their own, using signifiers of the roman empire translated onto the american scene.
It’s an important point that goes unexamined. These groups are not tapping into the Israel idea in the same way at all. Many of the zion-prot, are just waiting for the end times to be there to catch the 144K of righteous jews who are saved, and that’s all. They are doing it for the ‘one lost sheep’ (the Israeli capable of some sort of salvation), lol.
But no one says it. The zion-prot usually fall into those two camps of headsets, and this is a very new phenomenon (unlike the thousand years of chatting up crusades in catechism class), and in that way, a less ingrained socialization.
At any rate, different things happen in these populations, and it should be discussed.

How can we reach them with eggs and tomatoes at such distances? Hmmm…
Think if Obama had used that “debate” to corner that rascal on national television. It might’ve cost him the 2012 election but he would’ve won my respect, if he had dared it. Some Americans think of him as a “conservative.” He SAYS that’s what he is. Due to all the co-option, words have been turned on their heads. It’s of utmost importance to get everyone to DEFINE THEIR TERMS on just about everything nowadays.

That seems true, but then wasn’t it the Western White men who were taking the financial and physical risks? The reserves turned out bigger but they could have turned out smaller. Beyond that, I believe the Arabs got a percentage, so they would have gotten more money anyway.

What these Christian zionist do is focuis on the covenant between God and Abraham. There was no such covenant. The covenant was with Moses. This is not coincidence. Because the covenant was a conditional one promising great retribution for breaking it which the OT says the Israelites did repeatedly and faced terrible punishments.
The Bible said God told Abraham “I will make a covenant with your descendants from Isaac”. But the covenant itself was done with Moses.
Dueteronomy 28 is where you will find it. There is nothing called blind and unconditional support in the Bible. But thats what the Jewish activist want people to believe hence the need to steer away from Moses and focus on Abraham where the covenant is never spelled out.
