“1917”: A Fateful Reference to the Scofield Reference Bible

1917 appears to contain a specific praise of the Scofield Bible as embodied symbolically in the solider William “Will” Schofield. The director and co-screenwriter, Sam Mendes, is of Jewish ancestry, so this would fit an important pattern detailed in my work. The surname Schofield is, of course, merely a variant spelling of Scofield. Indeed, his last name is almost certainly a reference to Cyrus Scofield’s eponymous Scofield Reference Bible, a Bible that extorts non-Jews especially to protect the interests of Israel and Zionism as is well known in these parts of the web.

This becomes especially obvious because the name of the film itself may be a reference to the publishing of the Scofield Reference Bible, which first appeared in 1909 yet reappeared, revised by the author, in 1917. In fact, it is commonly called the “1917 Scofield Reference Bible.”  Indeed, the apocalyptic carnage of World War I, occurring in the intervening years, was popularly seen as vindicating the dispensationalist scheme in the Scofield Bible.[1]

1917 is also the year of the signing of the Balfour declaration, a declaration that officially established British support for the state of Israel. It’s likely many Jews watching this film around the world would find this date significant. It’s likely many of them, as well, would be aware or become aware that Sam Mendes was a fellow Jew, possibly transmitting an encoded message.

Briefly, the film focuses on two British soldiers, Tom Blake and William “Will” Schofield, a pair of English soldiers tasked with delivering a message on foot to another British battalion so as to save them from certain death. The German’s have cut the communication lines so such an effort becomes necessary.

One of the soldiers in the battalion they are tasked to save is Tom Blake’s brother, Joe Blake. En route, Tom Blake is stabbed to death by an inexplicably malevolent German pilot after rescuing the latter from the burning hulk of a fighter plane. This is perhaps the most salient clue that a racial/political agenda is afoot.

Will promises a dying Tom he’ll make the rest of the trip to save Tom’s brother Joe and to deliver sad tidings of Tom’s death. This becomes Will’s driving impetus. Here we understand Tom as a symbol of Christ himself and Will Scofield as his messenger. Hence the metaphor is fairly straight forward.

In fact, the film is highly encoded and many symbols would lead us to the conclusion that this is the metaphor being developed in the film. However, we’ll treat only the clearest and most obvious of them, requiring the least knowledge of myth, scripture and symbolism, and make the point in the most succinct manner.

Will is rescued by the Christ-figure Tom Blake in a critical scene in the film and it seems highly likely this is a reference to Cyrus Scofield’s conversion to Christianity or his “salvation.” After a rat sets off an armed trip wire in a German bunker, Will is buried by rocks. Tom unearths him. Yet Will is made temporarily blind by the rock dust and must be led out of the now collapsing cave by his savior Tom.

Famously, Paul’s conversion story sees the apostle going blind for three days after a visit from Christ until finally “something like scales fell from his eyes” (Acts 9:18).  Possibly the emergence of the pair from the collapsing bunker is suggestive of Christ’s resurrection from the tomb. Similarly, Tom’s rescuing of the German from the burning wreck is likely also a nod to Christ’s effort to rescue men from the flames of hell.

Importantly, at the beginning of the film, the Christ figure Tom Blake “chooses” Will Schofield to accompany him on his mission. After Tom leads Will into the Bunker (an important detail!) and then rescues him from it, Will complains, “Why in God’s name did you have to choose me?!”

As is common in Jewish parable, names are of central importance. Tom’s name is very likely a reference especially to the Thomas appearing in the New Testament understood esoterically as the “twin of Christ.”  In fact, the name Thomas means “twin.” The reference is to Thomas especially as a twin of Christ.

The Marvel comic book characters Black Tom Cassidy and the Vulture, Adrian Toomes, are two examples of this name usage in Jewish Esoteric Moralization, both appearing from Jewish creators Chris Claremont and Stan Lee respectively and appearing to represent Jewish figures. The clear Christ figure in the Matrix series, Neo or Thomas Anderson, may be another example. There the last name Anderson appears to be a reference to “Son of Man.”

The reader may find it surprising that a Jewish writer would develop a Christ-figure in his work.  After all, Jews are not Christians. However, this is quite common.  In fact, esoterically indicating Christianity as something that is detrimental to Aryans and non-Jews, yet beneficial to Jews, ranks four on my list of the five most common themes appearing in Jewish Esoteric Moralization.

After World War I, the Scofield Reference Bible flew off the rack, exceeding two million copies by the end of World War II.[2] Hence the pointless carnage of the World Wars literally sold the Scofield Bible and its apocalyptic pro-Israel message. In other words, evidently the film 1917 itself serves as an esoteric celebration of the Scofield Bible, the carnage of the World Wars and the Christian Zionism it would birth. The reader should consider this carefully. Here we find a film made by an ostensibly enlightened, liberal Hollywood Jew, esoterically endorsing apocalyptic Christian Zionism. This is what we call the Caducean.

When Will finally reaches Joe Blake, Joe is stricken by the news of the death of Tom (Christ). Joe will doubtlessly remain fiercely loyal to the notion that Tom was “a good man” as Will, a symbol representing the Scofield Reference Bible, reports. Will tells Joe as well that Tom “was always telling funny stories” and “saved his life.” Christ was also a teller of parables and this appears to be the reference. Regardless, it is clear Joe will become loyal to the memory of the Jewish God that Tom represents, Christ. Hence Will has accomplished his task.

Importantly, at Tom’s request, Will insists on relaying the news of Tom’s death to the mother of the Blake sons. Hence Will Schofield controls the message. The significance of Tom or Christ, and his life, will be controlled by Schofield or, of course, the Scofield Reference Bible. The end of the film sees Will wandering toward a lone tree set strikingly against the horizon. The tree is an important symbol with meanings explicated in my broader study. Here it might be understood, most simply, as the Tree of Life found with New Jerusalem in Revelation 22.

Again, the film is highly encoded and only the most obvious references appearing in the film are indicated here. Other symbols that require a deeper knowledge of symbolism and myth that are likely meaningful are the stones that fall on Will in the German Bunker, an injury that Will sustains to his hand on barbed wire fence and milk that Will delivers a starving mother and baby encountered en route to his destination. But for now, let’s keep it simple and understand that 1917 is a reference to the triumph of Zionism, assisted by Cyrus Scofield and the Scofield Bible.

I argue such esoteric or subliminal triumphalist messaging is developed to moralize Jewish audiences and demoralize non-Jewish audiences, whether or not this or that individual is conscious of the specific message being transmitted. And it is a more sophisticated phenomenon than has been laid out in this review. Yet simplicity is useful here to treat this obvious case of JEM or Jewish Esoteric Moralization.  Hopefully with such clear cases we can begin to establish in the reader’s mind that JEM is an important, common and salient phenomenon in Jewish Art. My thesis is that it necessitates, among other things, a rejoinder from the Aryan side, in Religion, Art and Culture, that is moralizing to Aryans.

    Re. the origins of the Balfour Declaration, I was recently browsing through Macgregor and Docherty’s recently published revisionist book about World War One – ‘Prolonging the Agony’ – and got the impression that their explanation for Balfour’s actions differed from the one I was accustomed to reading, and which Douglas Reed espoused in his books – namely that the declaration had been concocted in return for the Jews bringing the USA into the war to rescue us. Is there really a dichotomy here, or are the two explanations compatible?

Have not seen this movie but it sounds like it is of the first kind propaganda. “Onward she cried, from the rear, and the front rank died…the lines on the map, moved from side to side.”

    The list of “JEM” is films from the Hollywood Jewish agenda is extensive, going back decades. The favorite object is Germany, followed by America. Both have been and are subject to this.

    Amazing how entertainment is used to establish this persuasion to non-Jews and further the goal for the JEM, amazing how the gentile doesn’t recognize it, for the most part. But, isn’t that part of the purpose?

    If the author would follow up with more details, it would be read with gratitude.

    Yes, of course there is a racial/political agenda afoot here but what the writer is missing totally and completely is that Germany was always demonized as the great Gog of Ezekiel 38 and 39 hence the stabbing to death of the rescuer! Likewise, Russia was demonized as the great Magog of those same chapters. This especially came to the forefront when prophecy teachers in the hysteria of WW1 were trying to make sense of the times and interpreted the bible by what they were seeing happening and believed accordingly the world was coming to an end and indeed for many it of course did but not biblically!!! Reading Ezekiel 38 and 39 an Israel has to exist otherwise how will such a prophecy ever be fulfilled? These nations called Gog and Magog are supposed to attack Israel and be destroyed by God. So this then means that an Israel has to exist and with the rise of Nazism and Communism especially it was assumed and incorrectly I might add that we have arrived. However, again the missing link was the existence of Israel and when that happened lo and behold it was as if a great light had come upon the words of prophecy. That Israel came into existence and with 2 world wars instigated erroneously by Germany and her persecution of the Jews it was automatically assumed she is Gog. Russia with its communism was assumed the great Magog and Israel’s existence well the puzzle pieces are coming together. It is this prophecy that has emboldened so much of the events of the last 100 hundred years. You cannot understand Zionism Christian or otherwise unless one fully understand this prophecy period!!!! Bush and his Macron moment about Gog and Magog at work in the ME!!!!!!

    Now this is where it gets very uncomfortable because a great error of interpretation has occurred. Actually I would go as far as to say that in the annals of Christian Church history this one interpretation will go down in history as one of if not the greatest blunder of biblical exegesis ever witnessed in its history. One will never understand anything of the Old Testament prophecies regarding the rebirth of Israel unless one begins with Chiliasm pure and simple.     The name of the main character and the date definitely point to that, at the very least. It seems Jews are happy to make films in which white soldiers perform heroics, so long as it’s within the context of the two world wars. Is it just me or has there been more WW2 movies as of late than we’ve seen in awhile? That on its own says a lot about who truly benefited from those wars. There also seems to be some excitement or build up towards another major world war, especially with the moves in the Middle East lately.

    It seems to me that one can go too far with looking for meaning in “B” grade films, and trashy novels. What you say of the plot sounds like what I find in most films, since, perhaps, “Citizen Kane”, highly improbable stuff, lacking verisimilitude.
    But it would be interesting to look for the meaning in “Modern Art”, Mark Rothko and other such:

      Dismissing symbolism in narrative, yet chasing it in modern art? The super-rich buy and sell the stuff to launder their money, which explains the ridiculous values attached to those abominations. They’re not buying it because they think it’s meaningful or even good. It’s pretty clear that modern art is not about that, but about elevating untalented/schizophrenic/Jewish artists to high status in an effort to suppress Western Civilization’s standards of truth and beauty. A similar phenomenon occurs in modern architecture, for example. They retcon great buildings by either tearing them down completely or adding incompatible additions. The same thing happens when Hollywood retcons our great stories by simplifying, adulterating, and blackwashing them in film adaptations.

      To those unaware of the JQ, it’s completely baffling. They come to hate the art/architecture/movies because these no longer reflect their identity and no longer function as a source of national/racial pride. This has to do with the Jewish hatred of idolatry and white identity, which threatens them: Beautiful buildings and incredible sculptures like those of Ancient Greece, or Renaissance masterpieces, naturally inspire awe and religious devotion. They say “this is who we are” and “we are here” and “we do great things.” It’s identitarian/racialist propaganda par excellence, and by its very nature excludes the “other.”

    It would not surprise me if there is an allusion to the Scofield Bible.

    But there is another layer of meaning.

    I wonder if the Blake and Schofield in this movie allude to William Blake, the British poet. He was involved in a legal conflict with British soldiers that could have resulted in his imprisonment. I forget the details but I think Blake was accused of assaulting a soldier. One of his opponents in this contretemps was named Schofield. Schofield alleged that Blake said, “Damn the king. The soldiers are all slaves.” Blake mentions Schofield repeatedly throughout his works, especially his epics.

    The salvation reference–and I think Brahmin is correct in seeing this in the film–may refer to the way in which we can be “saved” by art or more specifically by Blake’s vision of the divine. Thus, the poet Blake saves his enemy Schofield.

    The fact that Schoefield’s first name is Will, the same first name as the poet, adds to idea that this metaphor is connected to the poet.

    I don’t really see what is so demoralizing to non-Jews, or moralizing to Jews, in this movie. It seems pretty fine to me.

    That is not to say that there isn’t symbolism. But I don’t know. Sam Mendes’ father apparently was Catholic, and apparently his parents divorced when he was little.

    I haven’t been to the cinema for quite some time as another has mentioned I too find it a waste of time as there the majority is absolute tripe. I thought this might be something a little different so I watched the film a few weeks ago but was disappointed.

    It was a film in which it was difficult to suspend disbelief. As a result the details portrayed in the story were jarringly unrealistic. This was especially true with the interactions of the main protagonist with most German soldiers.

    It was a pretty ordinary film otherwise that was lacking something vital that is needed to be entertained, enthralled or really moved. I can’t understand why it’s getting all the attention in the media as a good film.

    Other than that, I couldn’t recognise any of those references at the time of viewing but your writing on them are interesting.

    It is an interesting analysis but a bit too elaborate. Suffice to say that a Jew is responsible for the script and or the direction to know that the film will be poison. Regarding Sam Mendes, he was the author of the obscene and disgusting film “American Beauty”, and that sums up his persona. I am very grateful to Mark Brahmin for the reference to Cyrus Scofield, whose existence and importance I ignored.

    Well. That’s that. I thought this movie would be a reason to break my Hollywood boycott. But I will not be watching this movie in theaters, I’d rather DL for free than give these parasites a single cent of money by choice. They get enough in taxes to pay back the USURIOUS Federal Reserve. The Scofield Reference Bible is trash.

      I have an interesting anecdote on the origins of WWI.

      My father, as a 22 year, old clandestinely crossed the boarder into Austria in 1952 from then Czechoslovakia. He was considered a political unreliable on account his father – a former diplomat to Switzerland during some of the WWII years – who was, after the war, convicted of “slander against the soviet union” in communist Czechoslovakia.

      While in the refugee camp at Wels he met an older fellow from Hungary who was also a refugee. This older fellow related some of his experiences as a protege to a Hungarian count. He was essentially learning statecraft from his mentor and was privy to some, but not all, matters behind the scenes of statecraft that the count was involved in.

      The old man described his memories of a meeting a year or so before WWI in Hungary. I’m not exactly sure now, but if I recall correctly, it was held somewhere near Szombathely. The young man was not present inside the inner meeting room behind closed doors, but was waiting for his mentor just outside that inner room. He related that many of the European nobility, industrialists and bankers from various parts of Europe were present.

      At the conclusion of the meeting after several hours, when the count came out, he told his protege, in a matter of fact way, “………today is a historic day, we have decided to have a war to up-grade society”

      At the time my father was surprised but he had other more urgent things to concentrate on and not long after he lost contact with the old man.

      The first time he told me this I was a boy of eight or nine. Take it for what it’s worth.
