White Participation in the Riots in England?

It’s frustratingly difficult to get any solid information on the  racial composition of the riots in England, so I thought I would elicit comment. The official account seems to be that race had nothing to do with it. For example:

These are not race riots: Though they began, on Saturday afternoon, with a small protest in Tottenham, north London, over the shooting of a dark-skinned man by police under suspicious circumstances, they quickly became a much wider and less purposeful explosion of youth criminality. Globe and Mail, “London Police Overwhelmed by Futureless Youth

I loved arch neocon, pro-Israel fanatic, Anders Breivik-inspiring Pamela Geller’s take: “NOTORIOUS JUDEOPHOBIC GUARDIAN REPORTS ON LONDON RIOTS OMITS THE RACE OR ETHNICITY OF RIOTERS – BUT, STILL MENTIONS JEWS.” The Guardian, which Geller likens to “Nazis,”  offended with an article stating

The make-up of the rioters was racially mixed. Most were men or boys, some apparently as young as 10….But families and other local residents, including some from Tottenham’s Hasidic Jewish community, also gathered to watch and jeer at police. [emphasis Geller’s]

This would seem to be innocuous enough unless she thinks Jews are a race, but after the screaming by Geller and like-minded activists, the Guardian apparently changed the passage to

Ah, that’s better. Now the Jews are just one of several named groups.

Another  Guardian article was titled “UK riots: ‘Those who seek to racialise this problem are taking us backwards: The degree to which tensions between different ethnic communities played a part in the riots is a complex issue.” It conveys an air of desperation in defusing any possibility that race could be involved.

The uncomfortable question since the beginning of the disturbances on Saturday night, however, has been the degree to which tensions between different ethnic communities, and wider issues of race and cultural alienation, have played a part in some local areas. The answer, observers warn, is a complex and multifaceted one, in an area where simplistic judgments can be dangerous.

Complex and multifaceted. Translation: We are going to do our best to obfuscate racial factors. Rob Berkeley, director of the far left Runnymede Trust (something of a British version of the SPLC; see here), comes to the rescue by pleading ignorance:

Race is clearly playing a part in the backdrop to these riots, and where relationships are already bad I suspect it has made it worse. But I fear that people will rush to judgment, to the suggestion that this is all to do with black youths, for instance. From one side we hear that it’s about feral youth, and from the others its all about inequality. Until we hear the voices of the people involved – and at the moment we are not – it’s very difficult to say.

Interestingly, there seems to have been at least one instance of White working class people banding together to protect themselves. But notice how concerned they are not to appear “racist”:

Up to 300 people, mostly white men, were kettled by police at around 11pm on Tuesday in Eltham, after turning out for what some said was a defence of “a white working-class area”. “No smashing up, no looting, just protecting the fucking proper people,” said one man in his 40s. But he said: “Please get this – this is not a race thing at all, it really ain’t.”

An English pro-White activist sent me an email estimating around 20% White involvement, which, if approximately true, would indicate that Whites were vastly underrepresented. (According to Wikipedia, England is 87% White and less than 3% Black, suggesting Whites were underpresented by a factor of over 4 while Blacks were overrepresented by at least a factor of  20.)

An article on the BNP site stated that it was “mainly perpetrated by one race”—obviously referring to Blacks. Nick Griffin’s video clearly blames mainly Blacks (“feral Blacks who dominate so many inner city areas”). He also refers to Enoch Powell’s prediction that Blacks will have the “whip hand over the Whites” in 20 years time.) But he refers to “far left anarchists and low-life White trash” who joined in the rioting in places like Liverpool. Trying not to appear “racist,” Griffin is careful not to blame Black behavior on racial characteristics, but rather on their “sick community.” He clearly believes that Islam is a graver threat to traditional England than the Blacks.

Another aspect of the triumph of cultural Marxism noted by Griffin is that the police view Black criminals as “sacred cows” and thus did not intervene forcibly at the start. This was because “political correctness paralyzed them, supported by the entire political elite.”

The neocon English Defence League, focused exclusively on the Muslim threat, pretty much ignored the racial aspects of the riots.

Ann Coulter mentions “the sizable proportion of the thugs are white, something not often seen in this country,” then blames it on liberalism.

Congratulations, Britain! You’ve barbarized your citizenry, without regard to race, gender or physical handicap! With a welfare system far more advanced than the United States, the British have achieved the remarkable result of turning entire communities of ancestral British people into tattooed, drunken brutes.

Obviously, the data do not support her claim that race was irrelevant. And it’s hard to suppose that liberalism is stronger in England than America where the theme of rioting is Blacks victimizing Whites (although the police are bending over backwards not to see any racial intent). But she is doubtless right that the triumph of the cultural Marxism has indeed had devastating effects on Whites. As noted here and in Culture of Critique generally, Whites at the lower end of the Bell Curve on IQ require higher levels of cultural supports for high-investment parenting. Griffin’s discussion of “White trash” fits with this.

Although we obviously don’t have solid counts of rioters by race in various areas, I suspect that the analyses by the racially aware are the most accurate. In any case, all concerned, even the BNP, are bending over backwards not to make arguments based on genetic differences between races, such as those J. Philippe Rushton.  Quite tactically sound at this point, but for the race realists among us, it is certainly yet more indication that race continues to be an indispensable part of the equation.
