Who writes here acquired the British citizenship through a personal, quasi romantic decision in his youth, and prompted by a special fondness for the country, culture and civilization. I have not lived there for decades, but I follow from a distance the tragic collapse of what, in my view, made England special. I no longer even wish to travel there. Watching this excellent documentary and knowing of today’s England, via friends’ reports and news, it may be appropriate to repeat with Malcolm in Macbeth, “O my breast, thy hope ends here!” Equally considering how, even in this documentary, various locals, who “ride the tide of pomp that beats upon the high shores of the world” (KHV), are actually “the lyingest knaves in Christendom.” (KH6,p2)
