Farage: Right and Proper that Social Media Posts Are Investigated by Police

In July, Nigel Farage told Sky News “If people post on social media things that are racist, they nearly always get a knock at the door, charged, and that’s right and proper“. He recently called Twitter “dangerous.” Raheem Kassam, a close Farage ally, has echoed that sentiment, describing people expressing themselves freely online as a “cesspool” that is “very dangerous for humanity.”

Richard Tice, deputy leader of Reform UK, has repeatedly called for anonymous social media accounts to be banned. Anonymity is a cornerstone of freedom of speech. Without anonymity, in our current political climate, those expressing politically incorrect views risk being fired from their jobs. It is inevitable that such legislation would lead to many Reform members and supporters themselves being dragged into HR meetings simply for expressing an opinion online.

Katie Hopkins, a former columnist for The Sun and the Mail Online, talked frankly and accurately about the grooming gangs, and criticised former Labour MP Simon Danczuk for flying the flag of Pakistan over Rochdale. For this, Danczuk reported her to the police. Danczuk was subsequently selected by Reform UK to be their candidate in the Rochdale by-election. Danczuk has also called for increased press regulation, complaining that “those of the Islamic faith are vulnerable to tabloid newspapers”.

The decision to allow Nadine Dorries to defect from the Tories is a clear indication of intent. The Online Safety Act, passed by the Conservative government, was driven primarily by Dorries. The Spectator magazine called this legislation “the most sweeping attempt by any liberal democracy to bring the online world under the control of the state”. Dorries is now an official spokesperson for Reform UK.

According to the Times newspaper, the police make 30 arrests a day for online messages. We desperately need a party that supports freedom of speech and protects citizens from state overreach. Between embracing the architect of the Online Safety Act, selecting candidates who report journalists to the police, and demanding the end of online anonymity, Reform UK has proven it is not that party.

    According to NPR Farage is a far-right anti-immigrant politician. Not having a free press makes democratic change pretty much impossible. Farage is the right butt cheek of the Kosher Sandwich.

    I understand that ‘Reform’ is running/will soon be running not one but two Jewish fan clubs – ‘Reform Jewish Alliance (RJA)’ and ‘Reform Friends of Israel (RFI)’. Wondering whether ‘Restore’ are following suit, I wrote to them and asked, but for some reason I’m still none the wiser.

    I draw a line between incitement to group violence and personal intimidation which may require police action, and critical comment on “race” or anything else which should be free, and open to disagreement.
    The squabbles between Farage, Yusuf, Tice and Lowe are unseemly and untimely. We need a clear national policy on immigration, deportation, crime and education that their followers, and the present majority electorate can support, without all this vanity and backbiting. General elections do not come every year, and the White British have not much time left.

    In 1923, Adolf Hitler was arrested by the Weimar government for speaking similar truths in public. They jailed him for a year whilst he penned Mein Kampf… a treatise of history and then recent German events. 10 years later, he became Chancellor of the country by an overwhelming majority.

      That was far beyond talking and one can argue that if he hadn’t tried it, and had just kept on talking, he might have become chancellor a few years sooner.

      Hitler was not elected. Germany had the parliament system not the American system. He was appointed chancellor by the Prime Minister. Prime minister elected by parliament members in 1932.

      I agree, it’s deplorable. People just can’t seem to stay focused on the things that truly matter. Trivial stuff* distracts them from core issues, and their perspective, such as it is, is knocked askew. As you say, racist stuff.

    There is a real issue in putting all your eggs in one basket, interesting any personality or political party.
    Politicians tell us whatever we want to hear, and their real skill is seeming sincere -as we have just seen with the assault on Iran by the guy who told us he wasn’t into wars at all.

    For sure, it is easy to post on Gab. But, they really don’t care what you say, unless of course later it’s to arrest you for it – what they’re working on is, by some means, controlling the people who make decisions, Trumpstein, Farage.

    YOU need to go out and organize, you need to take advantage of when the local politicians slip up, you need to chat with other people and give them just a little, maybe a germ of knowledge that could very well grow into them understanding just like you.

    Yes, this is extremely, extremely difficult to do- many times you’re going to have setbacks, but if you give just one person the slightest understanding, that’s infinitely better than it was before, they might be a bigger fighter a better communicator than you are.

    So there is a lot of hard work to do, you are the only people who are going to do it, that’s the indisputable fact.
