“Growing number of Americans now viewing Israelis as an extension of their own family”
Recall from my review of Clifton & Lustick’s Israel’s Lobby:
They are keen to absolve the American Jewish community of complicity in Israel’s behavior, including the recent genocide in Gaza (and yes, they use the word ‘genocide’ to describe Israel’s destruction of Gaza). They note that support for Israel ranked only ninth out of 11 issues for Jews in the 2024 election, citing a poll by the Jewish Democratic Council of America which describes itself as “the political voice of Jewish Democrats. JDCA advocates for Jewish values and priorities within the Democratic Party and for the Democratic Party within the Jewish community.” It is thus clearly an activist organization at a time when Jewish support for Israel and American wars on behalf of Israel have become controversial. They ignore the poll’s finding in the same sentence that “American Jews feel emotionally attached to Israel (75 percent).”
The survey described below further supports the strong link between American and Israeli Jews. It doesn’t get any closer than seeing people living in a foreign country as “an extension of their own family.”

The bond between American and Israeli Jews has strengthened significantly over the past five years, with a growing number of Americans now viewing Israelis as an extension of their own family, according to a recently commissioned survey by the Jewish Federations of North America, reports Jewish Insider’s Haley Cohen for eJewishPhilanthropy.
Family affair: The survey found that 62% of American Jews now view Israeli Jews as extended family or part of their community, up from 46% in an American Jewish Committee survey in 2021. Among Israeli Jews, 53% now view American Jews as extended family or part of their community, up from 45% in 2021. While American and Israeli Jews share a strong sense of identity, they differ on how much obligation comes with it. While 78% of Israeli Jews agreed that Jews around the world share a common fate and must act accordingly, 56% of American Jews said the same.
Any society that stupid and detached from reality gets what it deserves.

Yes, the dream has burst like a soap bubble—or rather, a bubblegum bubble (invented by the “German-American” Walter Diemer).
