Roger Scruton on Rotherham: Taking Revenge on Traditional Britain

Roger Scruton has penned a characteristically brilliant article on the Rotherham madness (“British Police Ignored 1,400 Cases Of Pakistani Muslim Gangs Raping And Abusing Children In Rotherham“). He traces the hyper-political correctness apparent in Rotherham to the Stephen Lawrence case which was a watershed event resulting in the complete victory of the anti-White left in the UK (see Tobias Langdon’s article on the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry).

Fifteen years ago, when these crimes [in Rotherham] were just beginning, the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry into the conduct of the British police was made by Sir William Macpherson a High Court judge. The immediate occasion had been a murder in which the victim was black, the perpetrators white, and the behaviour of the investigating police lax and possibly prejudiced. The report accused the police – not just those involved in the case, but the entire police force of the country – of ‘institutionalised racism’. This piece of sociological newspeak was, at the time, very popular with leftist sociologists. Crock of Shock: Liberal Responses to Vibrant Depravity

Life has been disturbing for liberals lately. An American journalist is beheaded by a jihadi with a “British accent.” “Shocking,” says the Independent. At least 1400 White girls are subject to years of rape by men “of Pakistani heritage” in the Yorkshire town of Rotherham. “Shocking,” says the anti-racist campaigner Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.

Yes, it’s another of those occasions when I wonder whether English is really my mother-tongue. I thought “shocking” news had to contain some element of surprise and unpredictability. But that doesn’t seem to apply here. Britain has been enriched by mass immigration from violent and misogynistic Third World nations. Is it surprising when an enricher with a British accent cuts someone’s head off? Is it surprising when other enrichers commit gang-rape?

Not to me. I think it’s utterly predictable. Recall that smarmy liberal phrase: “of Pakistani heritage.” This is part of the heritage:

In the first phase of the war, young men and Hindus, Awami League members, intellectuals, students and academics were targeted for murder. In the second phase of the war, women were singled out. It is thought that at least 200,000 women were raped by the Pakistani forces and their collaborators – 25,000 victims found themselves pregnant, so that is not implausible. There are eyewitness accounts of “rape camps” set up by the Pakistani forces. The numbers, and the names of rape victims, remain disputed. Sheikh Mujib, the first leader of Bangladesh, ordered the destruction of lists so that the shame would not follow the victims all their lives. … It is impossible to know the real death toll. The historian R.J. Rummel, who has looked as deeply into it as anyone, concludes that the “final estimate of Pakistan’s democide to be 300,000 to 3,000,000, or a prudent 1,500,000.” (The war Bangladesh can never forget, The Independent, 19th February 2013)

The Commissar Vanishes: The Falsification of Photographs and Art in Stalin’s Russia, David King (Tate Publishing, new edition 2014) Who said the following?

We must carry along with us ninety million out of the 100 million of Soviet Russia’s inhabitants. As for the rest, we have nothing to say to them. They must be annihilated.

Was it Stalin? No, it was one of his victims, one of the commissars who vanished: Grigorii Zinoviev, described as “Lenin’s Mad Dog” in this fascinating and disturbing book. Zinoviev launched “the Red Terror” after Uritsky’s assassination and Lenin’s “close call” in 1918. Moisei Uritsky was the head in Petrograd of the Cheka, the murderous secret police that later became the OGPU, the NKVD and the KGB. Its first leader was Felix Dzerzhinsky and one of its chief torturers was Yakov Peters. This book describes how Peters “interrogated” the “Socialist Revolutionary” Fanya Kaplan, the woman arrested for the attempt on Lenin’s life. In response, Yakov Sverdlov promised “merciless mass terror against all enemies of the Revolution.” Sverdlov was another of Stalin’s victims, another of the commissars who vanished.

There’s an important pattern in the preceding paragraph. A negative one: although it describes a very important episode in Russian history, it does not contain a single ethnic Russian. Zinoviev, Uritsky, Sverdlov and Kaplan were all Jewish, Stalin was Georgian, Dzerzkinksy was Polish and Peters was Latvian. Lenin was half Mongol, a quarter German and a quarter Jewish. The Bolshevik Revolution is an example of what happens when paranoid, vengeful minorities win power over a majority with whom they do not identify and against whom they have historic grudges. This is exactly what is planned for the White inhabitants of Europe and the United States: they will be ruled by minorities who have been encouraged to hate and scapegoat Whites. Read more

Re the article by Prof. James G. Gimpel discussed in “What does becoming a minority mean for the social status of Whites?“, there are several other interesting findings:

  • Putting Republican Latinos on the ballot doesn’t make Latinos vote Republican. ” Remarkably, Latinos in California appear to vote overwhelming Democratic even when Republican Latino candidates are on the ballot opposing Anglo Democrats.”
  • “The propensity for immigrants, and especially Latinos, to be swing voters has been greatly exaggerated by wishful-thinking Republican politicians and business-seeking pollsters who refuse to acknowledge the stability of individual party identification (Green, Palmquist, and Schickler 2002). Entrenched patterns of party loyalty change very slowly, over decades, and are not ordinarily subject to wild swings in response to campaign stimuli.” . …
  • “In extensive national surveys, major immigrant groups prove to be more liberal than the native-born on matters such as government spending and income redistribution, the government role in healthcare, and government efforts to stimulate the economy. What does becoming a minority mean for the social status of Whites?

The recent study by Maureen Craig and Jennifer Richeson on the reactions of Whites to becoming a minority (discussed here) included a manipulation where experimental subjects (all Whites) read an “assuaging paragraph” intended to calm their fears about the impending minority status of Whites. The paragraph was a very authoritative sounding claim that “despite the shift in the demographic make-up, the relative societal status of different racial groups is likely to remain steady” and “White Americans are expected to continue to have higher average incomes and wealth compared to members of other racial groups.”

This was merely an experimental manipulation. The experimenters did not argue that the assuaging claim about White social status was true. But, given that they are proposing that fear of loss of social status is indeed the central mechanism underlying all their results, it is important to think about whether it is true or not. Again, the model they propose is that White people confronted with their impending status as a demographic minority fear a decline in their social status. This then motivates them to adopt a variety of positions associated with conservative politics in America, such as opposing a government role in healthcare, favoring more defense spending, and presumably opposing gay marriage, abortion, and restrictions on gun rights.

Income

As the above chart shows, it’s not the case that Whites “have higher average incomes and wealth compared to members of other racial groups.” Asians have had a higher average income ever since they became a demographically significant group. Moreover, in states like California, Whites are losing out in competition with Asians and Latinos for valued resources, such as admission to the University of California (“California students feel UC admission squeeze“). Whites (26.8%) are now the third most common racial group in the UC system, following Asians (36.2%) and Latinos (28.8%) (the latter doubtless boosted by the rule that students in the top 9% of their  high school graduating class are automatically admitted; Blacks are underrepresented because race cannot be used as a criterion and there are few all-Black high schools as Latinos have colonized many formerly Black areas. Immigration has huge costs for Blacks as well as Whites).

Another aspect of the future decline in the economic position of Whites is highlighted in a recent report by James G. Gimpel, a professor of government at the University of Maryland, posted by the always valuable Center for Immigration Studies (Immigration’s Impact on Republican Political Prospects, 1980 to 2012). Importing millions of poor, uneducated people will be an ever-increasing drain on society as a whole and will lead to political power for redistributionist policies that will hurt Whites. Read more

OMG! Something appalling and unacceptable has slipped through the Filters of Decency and Reason at the Guardian. Earlier this year, feminist warrior Laura Bates penned another white-hot assault on everyday sexism for the Woman’s Blog there. So far, so Guardianista. But look at the photo the website chose to illustrate her item. It’s a scene of everyday sexism in which the woman is White and the two sexist men leering at her from motorbikes are – I can hardly bring myself to say it – the two sexist men are Brown:

Isn’t that appalling? The filters have failed. Reality has slipped through and the Guardian has done something abhorrent: it has admitted the truth about non-Whites. Mass immigration from the Third World is extremely bad for Western women.
